Talking to a boater yesterday Sawley marina are refusing to sell diesel to continuous cruisers at anything other than 60/40 split. They also have to apply for a card to be able to do this. I wonder if this is all bwml marinas or just Sawley?

If you don't get diesel above bingley, he's only just started doing diesel from there again. Then next is at the marina below dobsons locks at apperly bridge. We bought 40 litres from Rob there on our way through... there a nice couple that run the marina and coffee shop - the diesel isn't cheap though - I think it was 95 p a litre but whatever split you like. They did it for us at 85 p though because I'd phoned the owner a while before we arrived and he'd told me it was 70p ish ... so they did it at the "moorers rate" rather than passing trade. Really is a nice chap though and the coffee shop is immaculate.

Jane's just decided that as it's her 60th birthday this weekend, she would like to go home and see her old Mum!
Unfortunately Apperley Bridge is closed until Wednesday morning, so I'll ring them then about diesel, and the possibility of a weekend mooring.
Had a look at the 'boat club' at the top of Bingley 5 rise. I can't get near the pump, so I guess it's more diesel for moorers rather than passing sales. No worries, I'm not low but just need a top up in the next week.
Still loving this canal, probably helped by the fantastic weather.

Well, that's fucking generous considering Turners are 62.9p at the moment.

I have to admit to not being around much lately, but I'm not sure whats going on about Rog, here. is this the Rog I met at Norbury, with a boat called "Paneke"? He seemed like a really nice chap to me, his only fault being that he didn't have a dog. Rog is a very kindly soul, and last year he encountered a crew who were in difficulties, being unable to operate a lock at Stockton. Naturally, given his benign and helpful nature, he stepped in to offer assistance. It later transpired that the reason the crew were unfamiliar with lock operation is that they had just stolen the boat, and Rog's reward for his Good Samaritan act was to be treated evermore on Thunderboat as the bastard love child of Ronnie Biggs and Dick Dastardly. Whenever a boat is stolen anywhere on the network, snide and unsubtle insinuations are made about Rog's possible involvement. Is this fair? Probably not, but then life is unfair.

Well I still think Rog is a good chap. He's a splendid fellow. I had a few pints in the Mucky Duck at Fradley with Rog and Jane a few months ago and we had a fine evening, although I will admit that every time one of them said "I'm just going to pop to the loo", I shifted in my seat to make sure I could see my boat out of the window. Happy Birthday to Jane this weekend.

Have I ever mentioned what wise, judicious, intelligent men Loafer and Stabby are, with such excellent judgement of character and quality. Just saying Rog

Just saying Rog I'm rather afraid that I didn't know the history behind this thread until now! I now see the humour in it! Seems OK dogless, old boy. Maybe you should consider getting a dog? !!

I should have mentioned that I phoned Hainsworths today. They do diesel and self declaration, and they have a mooring we can use for the weekend. Handy cos the station's only ten minutes away, and via Leeds we can be home in an hour and a half. Of course it means that travel is suspended until next week.....the things we do for the ladies......such sacrifice Rog

I have given up on red diesel, I just use bio fuel now, the price difference is small the boat is smoother and quieter on it, and its carbon released form the last year or so. Oil prices are starting to rise very fast, and they would like $130 a barrel by the end of the year, and $200 by the end of next year if so boating will be an expensive way of life [along with driving] I am now collecting all the parts to make the big boat electric drive, the only problem I forsee is that I and a few others will be the only boats on the cut!!!!!
