Anyway I’d be careful if I were you. Carthorse. Hmmm, bit like C&rthorse which could be linked to Trojan horse, ie one of Mr Parry’s entrapment agents. Be very afraid!

Hello All, Been lurking for a bit soaking up canal lore and tips from you lot. Finally completing the purchase of my first boat next week all being well, then after some fettling time taking an inaugural cruise fro Droitwich Spa up through Birmingham to Kings Orchard Marina up on the Coventry Canal. I’m starting a new job working in the area so will be living on the boat for a few days each week and trying to modernise her a little at the same time, so I’m afraid I’ll be asking lots of questions...... exciting times ahead (hopefully) welcome aboard. despite some banter everyone is quite friendly and we will all try to help one way or another. congrats on the boat. I’m not friendly, I’m a miserable cow. Congraqts on the boat.

Well, I have some idea of wot some of you are talking about, and a small inkling into some of the forum banter so don’t worry about offending me. The boats a 57 ft early 1990’s ex Alvechuch hire boat which the surveyor assessed as ‘a bit tired but basically sound, but in need of updating’ which coincidentally is how my teenage daughter describes me. I’ll post some pics next week when I’ve picked her up. I’ll be working at Birmingham Airport which is a bit of a trek from Kings Orchard but I work unsociable shifts so traffic will hopefully be kind, but I may move the boat a little closer into Brum later in the year. Thanks for the welcome 👍🏻

Yes welcome to the madhouse! We all have to start somewhere and even now I ask silly questions dont I John? I often know the answer but want reassurance that it all wont go wrong. So ask away and I am sure we will help. My last boat was an ex hire boat and it was a great buy basic but solid and well built good luck

Thanks for the welcome 👍🏻 Just a thought but we’re at Fazeley Mill, the sister marina of King’s Orchard. Walkable to the train station (15 mins or so) - though I think you have to go via New St? And by car down to the Belfry roundabout, on to the M42 etc, or “back road” A446 if the motorway is clogged. In other words, a shorter commute. They/we are a friendly lot at FMM with a lot of live aboards. Walkable to Ventura for all the shopping you could want, very short walk to several pubs, takeaways and a Tesco Express in Fazeley.

I have to say we had a brief stay at Fazeley Mill marina this year, and it is a great location and unusually not a wide open, windswept expanse of water, that many marinas appear to be. There is one draw back to the place.....but he's not there very often Sounds like a good solid boat, congratulations. Rog

Welcome! There are a few people on here who know what they’re talking about, quite a few who don’t. The fun is in trying to work out which is which! I'm in the first category. Welcome aboard carthorse.
