The link I listed works for me, but thinking a bit further about it, that could be because I'm a member of this closed group.
As it doesn't cost anything to be a part of this closed-and very interesting group, if one really wants to see John barge on the video, I suggest that you become a member too.
I can hear already voices saying :"I don't do facebook" exactly what I was always saying, but I don't regret that I made the step, and be difficult with my choices in the groups I've joined.
As we're (for the moment) live in a free world, nobody is obliged to join, just like nobody was obliged to become a member of TB, who does regret that now ?
Peter.

ok would join just to watch this video but have no idea which group. I don't think that you'll regret it, that is if you like the history of the barges that traded on the Humber.
The name of the group is : "BARGES small river Tugs and Workboats on Humber"
You'll be able to see some rather nice freshly posted photos of John's barge at the same time.
Peter.

Either that's a very tight squeeze, or you've been adopted as a bridge support Sabina looks glorious. Rog

Telemachus is getting as bad as Stabby at keeping us informed of his peregrinations and adventures.
Where are you now, and how's the water levels going?

Telemachus is getting as bad as Stabby at keeping us informed of his peregrinations and adventures. Where are you now, and how's the water levels going? Rog Our problem is that when I booked Standedge, Marple was still closed and it wasn’t clear when it would reopen. I therefore had to allow the 2 extra days it would have taken to go via Manchester and thus we are 2 days early - booked through on 20th. So having got through Marple we have slowed right down. We had planned to stay overnight in Stalybridge based on this extract from our new Nicholson’s guide “...there is now a vibrant waterway, a bustle of activity made colourful with boats: a scene reminiscent of a Dutch town”. Well clearly the author has never been to the Netherlands! Or maybe never to Stalybridge. What a dump, unkempt, weedy canal-side/locks/towpath. And more rubbish and junk in the bottom of the canal than you find anywhere in Birmingham. Rubbish, rubbish, plastic bottles, rubbish everywhere. Did I mention the rubbish? School kids waiting for a bus - bus arrived- in one smooth motion each child dropped their plastic drinks bottles and crisps bags to the ground and boarded the bus. No one batted an eye. Do these people shit in their beds because they can’t be bothered to get out of bed and go to the bathroom? And no sign of any boats at all. We did stop at the Tesco for shopping (having managed to dodge the underwater obstructions -presumably shopping trolleys). Having spent £80odd quid we departed the shop but set off the security alarm. Some security bloke accosted me and started quizzing me about whether I had any meat or chicken and where was my receipt? Bloody cheek considering I am quite posh and if I were going to do any shop lifting it would be in Waitrose or Harvey Nic’s. There is no kudos shoplifting in Tesco! Whilst he was accosting me no doubt scores of locals were exiting with their joggy bottoms and jimjams stuffed with contraband. The only saving grace was that the people seemed reasonably friendly. At least I think so - hard to understand though, we are suddenly in the North. Anyway, at least the locks are in good condition save for an absence of any lubrication. Generally leak-free. So far no low pounds. We still haven’t seen another moving boat (actually I lie, there was one on the lower Peak F) and so we nearly decided to nightstop on the Services just beyond the pylon, but in the end carried on a bit. Amazingly we found a good mooring above lock 10W - not on the lock landing which is unusable, but 50yards further on we were able to get right into the side. Amazing! Stakes only 1/2 in due to hard ground/stone but with no passing boats it’s not like we will go anywhere unintentionally. 1 minute after getting the boat secured it started raining and within 2 minutes it was bucketing down. Close shave! Having left the grim grime of Stalybridge behind it’s suddenly quite pleasant! Plan is to move further up and then maybe take a train into Manchester for the day, to kill time before 20th

Doesn't sound like Stalybridge has changed at all since our last visit.
Glad the Bridgewater is OK or we'd skip Manchester altogether, which would be a shame as it's a terrific place.
Thanks for the report.
