Cameron resigned because he backed the wrong horse in the referendum, so I can't quite understand why any pro-remain Conservative would put themselves forward to replace him.

So to sum things up: The 'which is the shiniest turd' contest has been cancelled All the Brexit supporters have shit the bed and quit Theresa gets to be Prime Minister, not elected by the people or even the party.. So this is the 'democracy' brexiteers were fighting for... The EU’s share of global GDP is 16%. Now the UK has left, it will drop to below 12.5%. The UK shouldn't make a bad trade deal for privileged access to what will eventually be less than 10% of world GDP. The UK has the best demographics in Europe, and within a generation will probably have the largest population and economy in Europe. The only essential ingredient to achieving lasting prosperity for the UK is good government. The people have resolved the EU issue, we just need some good politicians to get us through ( which in all honesty, I don't think we have), but they have all got lazy.

What I find strange is that we just had a referendum in which the majority of the electorate voted to leave the eu, yet none of the mainstream parties seem to see fit to have a leader, or a philosophy, which reflects the opinions of the majority. It just goes to show the sheer contempt in which they hold us.

From what I understand, though California has overtaken the UK and is now (again) the world's 5th largest economy. Both California and the U.K. Have for many years vascilated between 5th and 7th place.

The majority of the population of the UK clearly do not want to be in the eu. Therefore anybody standing as a new party leader should at least be attuned with the majority of the electorate.

Labour made a huge mistake when they chose the wrong Miliband.

That is one of the most distorted bits of logic I have seen for a long time If you would care to expand on that, and explain why you consider it to be distorted logic, then I'll do my best to answer your points. The majority of the population of the UK clearly do not want to be in the eu. Therefore anybody standing as a new party leader should at least be attuned with the majority of the electorate. You say ..... non of the major parties seem to see fit to have .....etc as if they should have split their parties into two groups prior to the referendum. The party leaders were picked by the members of those political parties to lead them. and not because they were for or against Brexit. Politicians are professionals who (should) work as a group together to put into effect those policies that are agreed by the group, this means that often they will be putting into effect policies that they didn't vote for, out of a group of policies that were agreed democratically by that party (group). A GOOD Prime minister should work hard to achieve those goals that have been agreed, that is also why I am disappointed in Cameron, I believe he should have sucked it up and done his best not wimp out. I agree an exit supporting Prime Minister would be preferable but a capable person is more important ........ would you really rather have Boris ?
