I've never heard of Bedworth. Is there a B&Q there?

I've never heard of Bedworth. Is there a B&Q there? There's a B. It's more commonly known locally as "Inbredworth". It's like Rotherham, only in the Midlands.

Bedworth is middle class surburbia compared to Rotherham ... it's only cos Kent exists that Rotherham has anywhere to look down on.

Oh. Is it as bad as New Mills, in terms of most of the population of the town looking more or less like everyone else who lives there?

Well the trad boat rally was a bit of a damp squib.
We did go out this evening hoping for the lighted parade but unfortunately some idiot had decided it would be a good idea to put up very high power floodlighrs which included the river and completely defeated the object of boating in the dark. Night vision takes a while to acquire but a millisecond to lose.
And they also have really loud idiot music.
Talk about dumbing down!
Very sad really, and not a nice place to be.
I did the normal swinging around Henley bridge arches as Dulcinea likes this and it's fine when there is no river traffic about. Rudder testing.
And irritating or causing entertainment for the natives !
ETA the idiot music is still going really loud.
This really does not suit nice old boats at all well !!

I have observed the phenomenon but I don't understand why people would select a potentially very attractive site, fill it up with quite nice boats and some vintage cars then proceed to deafen everyone and floodlight them as if it was a concentration camp. Weird shit.

Weird shit. It is a bit weird. Watching the '100' cricket recently on the BBC. I do get how blasting out a bit of 'Sweet Caroline' can be a bit of fun when a wicket has fallen. I mean, you have to cater for the majority in the ground who don't know what a wicket is. They have paid good money, they deserve to be entertained. Less successful was having some half rate band playing a couple of numbers at half time. Most of the crowd seemed to ignore them completely.

It's very localised I think ... in Sheffield they're called 'Eight foots' ... but we always called them 'Ginnels' or 'Snickets' Rog ETA In West Yorks where Jane grew up they called them 'Gennels' said with a hard G like gate, and they also called them jitties

Alrewas Fradley done, two hours which isn’t too bad I guess, the usual family’s standing round the locks when your trying to operate them, a nice couple decided they wanted to come up in front of us coz they pulled off the mooring straight onto the lock landing, let them crack on as life’s to short for twats.
Did the Indian at Alrewas last night, food was really tasty, did a mini pub cruise round the only three pubs. It’s a nice place with everything you need but we didn’t really feel it was for us, a little quite I guess for a Saturday night, plus two blokes in the toilet were gobbing off about boaters and how they hadn’t eaten for a week just so they could get some of the free buffet on offer.
Ah well onwards towards Tamuff, stopping somewhere nice and quite master for a steak on the bbq.

Harping back to metanoia 's post about boats mooring inches away from you, when you've found a quiet isolated spot ... I was reading a thread on the 'dark side' discussing folks who run their engines outside usual hours. The opening poster has reported a boat to C&RT for this (I'm sure that'll be filed under F) rather than go and have a chat. The combination of the two 'types' ... those who HAVE to moor near other boats, and those that HAVE to complain about any non conformist behaviour is exactly what I find irritating. As Met said, if you've taken the time and trouble to moor away from the world and its dog, why would anyone think it is appropriate to button up and share your space. On many occasions if I've seen boats pulling in I've nipped out to tell them I run the genny from 7pm to 2 am every night (I don't) in the hope they'll piss off ... usually works, but once or twice I've been told "That's okay, safety in numbers". I mean ... why the hell would you report someone to C&RT rather than have a chat. A friend lives on a permanent mooring without power, and he and all the boats there use genny's when solar doesn't provide. He's had boats moor opposite and then complain about the noise ! He advises them of the four miles of empty piling adjacent to the moorings ... sometimes even politely Rog
