Proper wet day in Nantwich, had to pull the boat down closer to the road to load up and then go get coal and moor back up, absolutely soaked through so sat on the mooring all day, had a little snooze and off for food tonight, struggle to get a table anywhere in Nantwich, wanted to go the leopard pub as the menu and ales look good but not to be.

Horrible weather here too. Did my washing but no chance of hanging it on the rotary dryer outside so at the mo the saloon looks like Nanki-Poo's laundry (Β© Tinsel Top). Too wet to do much on my next woodworking project, the log store, either. Tomorrow doesn't look to be much better either. The good news is that I've been paid by work (I'm on monthly pay so it's been a long wait) so the finances have improved a bit and hopefully I can start saving for next year's cruising fund now. Apart from the car MOT in November I have no major outgoings until the navigation licence becomes due in March. The retro tinplate signs arrived so I braved the rain and screwed them to the shed but other than that it's been a bit of a dead weekend so far.

Horrible weather here too but while stuck indoors and after finding that the virus affects males far more than females, I simply self-declared myself to be woman: easy enough to do these days!
When it's all over, I'll just declare myself to be a man again. Sorted.

Now I know why you went to the trouble of getting the roofing shingles. Excellent.

Now I know why you went to the trouble of getting the roofing shingles. Excellent. We made a bit of a pig's ear of that side and will be removing and re-laying the shingles the next time one of the boys visits. As you can see, the overhang on the side nearest the camera is greater than the overhang on the other side. As a result there is an unsightly gap between the shingles and the ridge tiles, so we intend to remove 3" from the plywood overhang and re-fit the shingles which should take up the deficit. We are also going to re-fit the ridge tiles starting from the rear end rather than the front, so that the joins are not visible from the front, and stick the whole lot down using tubes of bitumen applied with a silicon gun. The whole thing has been a sharp learning process. But still I'm very pleased with the way it turned out, especially as it cost so little to construct because of the use of recycled pallet wood.

We had to go into Whitchurch today to talk bathrooms.Thought we'd go to Sainsburys as it was close.Wrong idea, queues a mile long as there was no difference between waiting for shopping or Argos. Then went to Tesco, not my fave but we'd bought meat at a butcher so only needed basics. On the way back,we drove past a Lidl with a fairly empty car park.π‘

Work is keeping me out of the rain ... but who knew there were two 4.30 's in a day. By my day off on Wednesday I should be back into the working routine, but it is a bit of a shock after 9 months off ... you regular workers have my sympathy Rog

I'm regularly awake now in the early hours but I wouldn't want to venture out. I am glad working days are over ... I'm sitting looking at the sky just beginning to lighten and hoping there is gonna be a window of opportunity weather wise for a nice ramble with a lazy dog......

Beautiful but rather autumnal pre dawn here, band of clouds way to the Northeast but otherwise clear skies.
Fingers crossed for a nice sunny day ....... my batteries are down to about 60% after the last couple of dreary days ...... I have still avoided switching on the shore power/starting a gennie but I guess that time is approaching fairly fast.

Ended up last night in the cheapo curry house in Welsh row, if anyone is heading for Nantwich for food on a Saturday, suggest you book well in advance, we called every eating place and all but the curry house was booked, gonna book somewhere for our return next Friday.
Todayβs plans are water then hoof it to middlewich to go out for a few bevvies tonight, then tomorrow head up the T&M, no idea where we will end up but we have to turn Wednesday morning to be back.

Strange coincidence. My dad had a doberman he named Freya.
For all the 18 years he was with my mum, a dog lover, he refused to have any dogs despite us living in huge houses with ponies, domestic fowl etc etc.
As soon as he left and remarried he got a doberman. It was his dog not the new wife's dog as she had a cocker spaniel.
Weird.
After that our single mother house was filled with lurchers.
People are odd.
