If you think the Daily Mail is a good source of info about what is actually happening rather than their take on real life, then you will get a warped view of real life!

If you think the Daily Mail is a good source of info about what is actually happening rather than their take on real life, then you will get a warped view of real life! I think the photos in the Dimwit Mail give a clue - or are there really no crowds of pillocks trying to squeeze in through shop doors? And no-one wearing masks on public transport? My main concern for now is that I have too much weight on my back wheel, and there'll be another 75kg on it when I sit on the saddle. No front panniers I'm afraid. Hope the spokes can take it, and I shall try to shift some weight to the front wheel. Really hot now, sweltering inside the house... but should be good temps for mornings and evenings. Although now thunderstorms predicted for Thursday down south.

True. Despite my quite unfathomably high position in the UK secret services I still have not found a way to do this. I could collapse the forum entirely and delete the database within around 50 minutes but that would be wrong.

We had to go to Kalajoki - appointment at health centre - no-one in Kalajoki was wearing a face mask - not even in the health centre. Looks like Finns simply don't care about the coronavirus - either that or they are just as stupid as stupid can be. We wore face masks but are beginning to feel a little stupid also. But then, why have the borders of countries been closed for all these months, people laid off work (still are), airlines shut down, etc. I found a cycle lock lighter than those I have (OK, it's a cheap lock but might help when I nip into shops), some plastic tyre levers (all of my metal tyre levers but one are on our boat), and some 'Lipsil' and sun cream. Aiming be off in the cool around 4am tomorrow. My fears are: 1) back wheel spokes will snap. 2) my back or knees will pack up, or I will only get as far as Kannus (16 miles) and be too exhausted to carry on. 3) thunderstorms predicted for Thursday - I may get struck by lightening. The Witch will come to rescue me as far as Kivijärvi, and my son may rescue me south of Nastola, but between those points I'm on my own.

Is this because of the 3 kg of oil you are carrying to grease the chain + the 10 kg of spares and tools (including bear spray and anti 'twat' weapons) for 'just in case' !

It's hard to keep things to a minimum. I have my trusty Swiss Army Knife for bear attacks (although it looks like badger attacks are more common), a dumbell spanner, puncture outfit, tyre levers, spare inner tube, and a small bottle of oil to sprinkle on the chain now & then. I have to remember to keep an eye out for scenery and photographic 'catches', as I'm hoping to get enough material to make a little 'journal' out of this, and a YouTube video.

Make sure your rescue plans are robust!

Well - 'Dex' (dexamethasone) seems to help somewhat for people who are very ill - good news.
Now for the speculation bit.......................
Many of the patients who got seriously had very low blood oxygen levels before getting so ill, it was commented often by high altitude mountaineers that follow medical science - with covid there were blood oxygen levels below almost survival expectation but not showing many other symptoms. Dex gets used to treat this in high altitude and now seems as effective in dealing with covid.
Now...... Diamox is used as a prevention of getting high altitude sickness (won't stop you getting it completely though, just helps stopping the worst effects) - how soon do we see Diamox being trialled on patients who have Covid but don't yet need hospitalisation? Or more likely be touted as a miracle cure!
Buy shares in Diamox now!
PS - Diamox can be used instead of viagra, so I'm led to believe...

I find it interesting that an old time steroid is proving to help some who are really ill.....guess it'll pave the way for more research on these lines. Fingers crossed the medical profession and scientists build on this and we see more affordable treatment
