Co-op often have a good deal on the rather nice Weston's vintage cider. 3 bottles for a fiver. 8%abv it's quite a nice tipple.
That's customer service.
The fact they don't always stock Lotus root seems less important but then I do have very conservative tastes.

Maybe bodger before criticising one word, one should check their own posts. I feel dogless you maybe right. One important point is what store? if they are a CO-OP they might not be a part of our group and therefore I can agree they are useless idiots without a clue. I miss dealing with customers, good or bad I used to love the challenge of turning a complaint into a compliment.

In your retirement, how about offering the Co-oP your services and turning one of their shops around so it is a shining beacon of how things are done? Could fill a page in a local newspaper! He's not an Indian exactly.

"You remind me of the Co-op assistant who, when asked why they didn't have an item in stock, replied "it's funny you should ask that - several people have asked for it, but we don't stock it because head office says there's no demand"
Open your eyes. I have already explained what I would have done. More than once.
The rest was well not worth replying to really. In your original post you said the business systems were rubbish, They dident stock in your eyes key lines, They had lots of gaps.
I have tried to have a reasonable discussion about it but apparently you don't give a tinkers shit.
And yes i have worked in tiny stores and have created ranges for our local customers, there are ways. And yes customers go into the smallest of stores and ask for the most obscure products, sometimes things I have never heard off.
I haven't claimed to be an expert, just someone who is very knowledgeable and experienced in my job and one that is very customer serviced based. I have awards for my customer service and the store standards I achieved.π I always gave my teams the tools, abilities and confidence to do the same.
what part of "I just want to go into a local shop and find what I want at an affordable price" do you not understand?
Unexpectedly you come up with a load of management glibspeak which counts for sweet fanny's adams apple.
The customer doesn't want explanations - he just wants results. Management in many customer service sector businesses don't get that - it would seem you are one of that breed.

You have no idea about me and how I work or what breed I am. You made some complaints about the business I work for, you said you did not understand retail not about wanting to go into a local shop and buying stuff. Had you just said that I probably would not have even replied. You made actual statements and allegations about our business and systems and about myself it would appear.so yes of course there was business speak. I was trying to help you understand things, to give you some food for thought. However you don't give a shit so there is no further point. Except for I wish your Indian bloke well. He has a lot of catching up to do to beat Britain's number one convenience retailer but I wish him luck

He doesn't want to discuss thebfg ... he wants to rant. I'd leave him to it Rog I've twigged, but I am happy to allow him to have the chance. Most people on here will have seen me talk passionately about coop. It's not really about the stores, its definitely not about putting beans on shelves. It's as bodger says, its about the members, it's about what we do in our communities about what we do all around the world reinvesting all our profits back to the people. That's what makes us different to other retailers.

there is a standard thunderboat tag that describes bodger accurately I'm always happy to engage in discussion. Up to the point we get personal and make wild claims we can't back up about others.

The customer is always right ..... except when they're fXXXing wrong Your not far wrong, some business can keep millions of customers happy but there will always be an unhappy one. Not that I am suggesting this about bodger. Obviously I have left food for the logistics side of the business but even this year I had two unhappy customers who really thought they were right and both wanted to make complaints. The first wanted 10 cigarettes and got very angry when I said they would have to buy 20. Even in explaining that it would be illegal to sell a packet of ten, they still thought it was my fault. The second asked for tobacco I asked which one and they said the one with green on. Now most people know that all tobacco packets are green. They got quite shitty when I couldn't name the one they wanted Both on the same day.

The second one sounds like the man who walks into a shop and asks for extra small condoms.
Surely some sort of giggle ?
ETA having never worked in a customer facing role I don't know anything about this so please ignore if appropriate.

Well Mr Tesco rocked up and had pretty much all of our list, the only thing was not all of our favoured items were in stock and we had value 0rdèŠbaked beans but left us with "Weight Watchers" baked beans and we also got a pack of toilet rolls!! All in all not too bad an effort. Phil

Great news on the toilet rolls!
Perhaps you won't need quite so many with "Weight Watchers" beans???
Enjoy both x
eta - bit concerning as you already have the 48 pack - but we know where to come begging when the s**t hits the fan
