Yes Nick, I thought last night it sounded very weak, but previously the engine cover has been removed, so quite a bit noisier. It is certainly trying to do something, and of course, it previously started pretty much immediately, and I was not working the controls. I 'll have a look now. brb back again, the fuel cock to the fuel filter is OPEN, unless handle has been removed and and shows open [ie in line] when it it is actually OFF unlikely, not impossible, I never touched it. extremely unlikely it is clogged there as we emptied tank of 30l of muck, put in 60 l clean with additive, and have had engine running twice since then. I cannot see another fuel tap, However there is a tiny gleam where the fuel filter meets fuel 'Distributer' It was a major job to get old one off it may not have been changed since 2013. If diesel can "weep" out, air can "suck" in, but these Isuzus are pretty agricultural. It was not I who replaced fuel filter, it was a man, and he was a lot more patient than I would have been. It seems dead tight at the moment. I will try to think which way i should turn it, I am thinking lefty loosey, righty tight, and upside down of course. I might have tried to tighten it grrrrrrrrrrrr. The fact is the engine was running after fuel filter change. When BSS guy inspected fuel line, he may have "pulled" the fuel line connection, he certainly cable tied it to prevent vibration/abrasion.
Thinking, how do I check engine is getting pure fuel and no air, I have wiped dry all pipes and hoses, but you know how persistant diesel is. Wouls amalgamating tape round the fuel filter/'distribeter' seal off any air ingress?

where on earth are you that you can't find a single (or married !! ) friendly boating person to help?
even with Covid floating around I'm sure you could find a way to mitigate the risk.
After reading the cwf thread that got locked.. I don't think she will be asking the neighbours. why? Has she managed to piss them off as well?

Wouls amalgamating tape round the fuel filter/'distribeter' seal off any air ingress? Yes if diesel can weep out air can definitely get in. In fact air can get in even when the leak is too small for diesel to get out. Tape is unlikely to fix it. When it is turning over, is there any smoke from the exhaust? White smoke (which is actually atomised fuel) indicates fuel is getting into the cylinders but itβs not igniting, due to lack of compression / not hot enough. If so have you been operating the heaters? Heaters are normally activated either by turning the key in the opposite direction from off for 10 secs or so (usually against a spring), or maybe (if it has a timer) by leaving the key on for a few seconds until a light goes out, before trying to start. If the exhaust looks completely clear, it means no fuel is getting in. This could be due to air having got in, fuel off, engine stop control operated etc. If there is an electric fuel pump, leaving this running for a minute or two can purge the system. Otherwise you need to operate the manual pump. Some engines (Beta, not sure about Isuzu) have a big black button on top of the fuel filter that you cycle up and down to pump fuel through. Otherwise you need to operate the manual lift pump which is usually attached to the engine and has a small lever protruding (follow the fuel lines to find it). Ultimately you can check for diesel by loosening one of the injector pipes at the cylinder head and cranking the engine, but you need spanners for that. You should see little spurts of diesel if there is fuel available. Edit: looking at pictures of Isuzu control panels, they generally show the ignition switch has off, on, heater, start in that order, going clockwise. When in the heater position the yellow light comes on to indicate heater on. I suspect that to get from on to heater, you need to hold against a spring. Then further turn against a spring to activate the starter. When you let go it will return to the on position. So when trying to start it, hold it against the spring in the heater position (yellow light on) for about 10 seconds before further rotating it to start the engine.

OK sun over yardarm, no engine trials 'till midnight, filling my day with relaxation, siesta, housekeeping, study, painting, boating.

Yes, it's an extremely quiet engine, I could not enrage them any more than I have done! They are, howver keeping more disciplined, as Death sends his emmissaries closer every day

Missed my siesta, so it's and early bath. I will put plumers grease round fuel filter, and hold engine heater on, according to the manual and / or handwritten notes.

Well, for your sake I sincerely hope the technical guys on here might once again be helpful later tonight, which is considerably more than I would be after having been informed you would fanny through your day and then try the engine again at midnight! Advice, by the way that the guys gave willingly, taking quite some time and you haven't even had the grace to thank them for it.
I wonder why you haven't asked for this advice on cwdf?

I do worry, Ive had good advice on here and appreciated it and I'd hope that any of us could ask again, but ill mannered twit twats might discourage further advice being given quite so freely in future.

I AM NOT GOING TO TRY THE ENGINE TONIGHT. I would not be running for long, anyway. It is quieter than the Webasto. There are working boats coming and going here 24/7 I can do without distracting comments. OF COURSE I AM GRATEFUL FOR HELP, situation not yet resolved

Instead you could try to be a little more gracious and friendly instead of just bizarre. Im trying, (occasionally very) to be a kinder more tolerant person but you push my ruddy buttons more frequently than a junkie on a slot machine.
