Picture of the day for peterboat! Electricity points for charging electric cars outside our hotel. However... no electric cars were available for inclusion.

Anyone can have a go at thinking of the fossil fuel involved to set up electricity generating windmills. Architects driving to work to draw them, people driving to meetings to discuss the siting of them, farmers flying off on holiday after receiving their windfall of cash, cheap labour from across Europe coming in their tatty cars to build them, the machinery used in constructing them. Once up, and the blades not turning most of the time (I can see windmills many times each working day and often wonder what was the point in building them if they ain't spinning)... where is the electricity going? - our bill hasn't gone down! But they are a very much an eyesore, have changed the landscape of Kannus for many years. Then there's the cost of dismantling them after 20 years, as the ball bearings are worn out and the fibre glass blades Made in China (yes they are!!)(and what of the fossil fuels used in bringing them all that way?) are split and cracking. And the fuel for the bulldozers used to cover them in earth and 'landscape' the buried evidence and pretend the episode never happened. I'm all in favour of 'Green Energy' so I have fed and watered the two unicorns we keep in the garage and we'll be flying on them towards Kainuu today. And not using the car at all, oh no. you are at it again.
it is true to say that wind turbine blades are made in China. it is also true to state that the largest blade manufacturers are not in China ........... try Denmark and the isle of Wight for example.
did anyone ever claim that there is no carbon footprint or fossil fuel consumption related to the construction of wind farms?
ball bearings, GRP blades? .................. how long do you think gas turbines and boilers for steam turbines (nuclear, coal and gas fired) last before they require major overhaul or replacement? do you live in some kind of fairyland where everything of quality never needs fixing or scrapping? what do you think all the engineers in the world (other than those involved in design, manufacture and construction) do all day?
where do you think the energy generated by wind farms goes? you should read up on the way that the mix of energy generated by different technologies makes up the overall supply and how it is managed.
if you are not prepared to research the topic thoroughly than you run the risk of making a fool of yourself by posting such utter crap.
They build the blades on the IOW then shipped them over the solent for finishing at the old power station in fawley. Quite a big operation. The power station was also used for filming in star wars, Mision impossible and Red Drawf.

Real green groups not in the pay of the oil companies which is why they know the film is crap![9br] Disclaimer, I haven't seen the video or the counter argument. But, I can see a small issue with that statement. You say oil companies made the video and you say their enemy(so to speak) claim its rubbish. Of course they will disagree. Has anyone neutral discredited it? Its been removed from the net apparently as its been so badly discredited, Oil companies fund misinformation in the hope of keeping their product on the market for as long as possible, it would seem they bought themselves the film makers as the film really was out of date and using poor info to con us into believing oil is clean

I'm not saying fossil fuels are clean, or the future, I'm saying 'Green Energy' is not as 'green' as some would like to make out. It's quite shocking when you drive across country and see all the fields and forestry action and realise it is all done by the internal combustion engine; all those tractors, all those trucks.

quite shocking!
what's new - this argument has been going on for a decade or more - meanwhile the viability of 'green energy' improves and your apparent scepticism is more and more misplaced.
buses in Bristol are now gas powered (cleaner if not necessarily 'greener') - is your little bus powered by diesel oil by any chance? ............. you should be ashamed of yourself.

A damned sight simpler to decommission than a nuclear plant, we need them too, till we crack fusion. As for the empty charging points, how many petrol stations did you drive by, how many pumps were empty at the time. Obviously the clever Finns know that without a system in place first, no one will buy electric. Least of all a tight arsed Scottish gened immigrant. Which surprises me, given they are cheaper to run.

- is your little bus powered by diesel oil by any chance? ............. you should be ashamed of yourself. Yes it is. But 2,870 litres of diesel (minimum) did not run through its combustion chambers during the 8 weeks it slept in the garage due to the coronavirus. Instead of attacking me every day, you could find yourself a hobby. Collecting beer mats?

either way, max or min, those numbers, by your kind of twisted logic, should lead you to conclude that Greta Thurnberg conspired to introduce Covid-19 and that she has won her first major battle by getting your bus off the road. (that's just as logical as concluding that China created it).
................. ooh! you are getting sensitive my dear, there there, please don't cry. .................. p.s. - harsh words from a twat who posts 20 times to my one.
f.y.i. I have a great hobby and have entirely rebuilt the layout and accommodation of my leccy boat over the past 2 months.
it would seem that if you have a hobby it can only be boring us all to death with snippets.
in the good old days you would have had a scrap-book ....... it is detrimental to this forum to treat it as your personal scrap-book but it seems to be an addiction for you. you clearly need treatment for your condition.
