Please don't group GP's and nurses together. GP's have put their personal safety before that of their patients ... when they took the job did they not realise it involved contact with sick people ? I also noticed the church has not covered itself in glory ... closed and locked ... I thought GP's and the church were supposed to be our refuge and support in troubled times ? My sister (nurse) her husband (ambulance service) have continued working throught ... both have had covid 19 (and now have the anti-bodies ... my sis is blood doning). Thankfully not all the NHS have chosen to hide away ... and lets not forget all the retail workers, drivers, parcel people etc. etc. their keeping going has allowed the vulnerable to be protected ... surely GP's should have been doing the same ? Rog Just in a bit of defense of the Church (most unlike me.......), they were just responding to the Gov instructions by closing. Ministers etc. carried on with most of their role of visiting elderly/sick even if only online, carrying out funerals etc. I know my Mum's church has reopened (for now), although I think the regulations/guidance still says no singing. Most churches have had their doors locked for years. Not Very Christian. Keep Out, poor people, we have valuables inside! And you will only steal them!!

Not for the first time naughtyfox you're wrong. Since the lottery started and churches have accepted financial help from Camelot, one of the conditions is that the churches must be open to the public. Difficult, because they rely on congregation volunteers to open and close, but necessary. I love visiting churches as historic buildings ... but they are also oases of peace and calm. Rog

Rog Actually most churches don't get funding from Camelot - many wouldn't accept the funding (but that is a different discussion). Most churches buildings are locked up for most of the time. Note the use of 'most' in my reply.

When I were a lad the churches always had their doors open. The local C of E church had some candlesticks stolen, some pews also. The local Methodist church suffered an even worse fate. Lad known locally as 'Gorpo' went in and helped himself to the communion wine. Having got himself plastered he then torched the place. After that local churches were locked unless a service was going on, or by appointment. This was over 40 years ago.

I'll ask me mum a teatoller.... who tokk the 'pledge' over 40 years ago.

Bus mechanic at work says diesel doesn't really get old, still good after years and years. I asked because we last filled up in July '19 and topped up Oct '19. Almost a whole year without driving the boat, apart from a lap round the marina and a trip to the dry dock just round the corner. Engine should be getting a run today, to throw some oil round the bearings, and give the coolant thermostat a flexing. Bus mechanic at work talking shit - his experience is from high volume turnover through PSV vehicles that do 5-10 MPG The addition of bio diesel to regular pump diesel has played havoc with off highway diesel powered equipment with low turnover of fuel - better than even chance you didn’t get FAME free diesel on your last fill, high chance you now have a tank full of jelly and microbes.

Although it has the potential to communicate gratitude and respect, I can't help but feel that a lot of NHS staff would have preferred some extra cash instead. Clapping is nice but it doesn't pay the rent. I bet they didn't even get free parking at work. Some did get free parking but only after it was highlighted.. They all need a decent pay rise.. I am on a site thats been commenting on their pay structure and its not fair

I did think at the time that wishing a STD on the NHS staff was a bit rude "clap for carers". I never clapped nor did any of my family members (woman and kids) as it was a bit too much like dumbing down. I can't deal with dumbing down . Yes doctors and nurses and other NHS workers do a good job and we appreciate it but at the end of the day nobody is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to do the job. Many/most people do a good job. NHS staff are not in any greater danger from covid than many other workers. Countries gone mad. So much over the top hype about stuff going on. It’s driving me around the bend. The winter of discontent 2020/21?

I am on a site thats been commenting on their pay structure and its not fair KGH Suspended Staff Car parking charges end of March - today the trust have announced to staff that as a way of saying thank you they will continue the suspension until end of March 2021; for us that works out at an annual saving of £312 on a space that isn’t guaranteed to be there at 07:50 during the week, it’s not uncommon to have to pay the visitors car park day rate to get a space

Some transport companies have now started to advertise "free car parking" as one of the perks of the job and these adverts are always treated with ridicule on TruckNet, much like "free uniform provided". You turn up on time for your shift, there's nowhere to park your car for free, you go home. When your employer phones to ask why you haven't showed up, you tell them where to send the taxi. And what time you want one to take you home. Simples.
