No change to the tiers in todays announcements ... surprise surprise !
We'll see what the new year brings before making a decision ... I fear it'll bring a further lock-down but we'll see.

My apologies ... this wasn't intended as a covid thread ... I was interested in how restrictions were affecting liveaboard boaters to assist in our considerations as to whether to return to the boat in three weeks, or stay where we are. Rog Be fair - liveaboard or "stay where we are" ? It's not been an easy - nor any - choice for the majority ... .... and what of those "tiers"?

Rog Not quite - Northamptonshire escaped Tier 3 by the skin of its teeth; the delightful Lucy Wightman was desperate to get us shoved into the most strict of tiers due to the feckless idiots living in NN1 and NN2. Peterborough city district was not so lucky - tier 3, guess what postcode the boat is in...... to make matters worse, Mrs Gazza has a 10k run on New Yearβs Eve at ferry meadows; highly likely organisers will pull the plug as competitors are not supposed to travel into or out of a tier 3 to compete. Review is 30 December, most likely too late for them to roll the dice and hope Peterborough city drops back to tier 2 for New Yearβs Eve π’

Oh bugger!
Sublime Racing 1 hr Β· It is with incredible disappointment and sadness that we have to report the need to cancel our New Yearβs Eve 10k β sponsored by Advance Performance. We had planned for almost every eventuality. We could have even run the event within our covid regulations if the whole of Cambridgeshire went to Tier 3 because our Crew and enough Race Makers would be able to attend. However, with the announcement today of just Peterborough going into Tier 3 and many of the surrounding areas remaining in Tier 2, this prevents travel into the venue address. England Athletics, our governing body and insurers state that travel to or from Tier 3 is not permitted to compete or officiate. It is almost the perfect storm that has struck just a couple of weeks before Race day. The Team at Sublime have worked tirelessly in the run up to this event to make sure it was as perfect and safe as possible. Everything is ready, from the 1,000 plus goody bags all packed with size specific t-shirts to the 64 glass trophies all etched with the New Yearβs Eve 10k logo. The start list is prepared, and everyoneβs race pack is stamped and ready to be posted tomorrow. We are truly gutted at this last-minute restriction being imposed on us. We know how important this race was for so many of our runners, having received such lovely messages of thanks for ploughing on with the event when so many other events had made the decision to cancel and postpone. We were so sure we could make it happen and we got so very close to doing it. I would like to personally apologize to our runners and Race Makers for this disappointing run of events. Whilst the decision has been taken out of our hands, I do not underestimate how disappointed you will be. We are looking into a virtual option for New Yearβs Eve 10k and will announce the details shortly for those that wish to take part, however the default position will be to transfer everyone to our Midsummer 10k in June, which uses the same venue and course. We will write shortly to each participant with full details about all options, including the virtual NYE10k and the Midsummer 10k. In the meantime, please accept our sincere apologies for this huge disappointment. On behalf of everyone at Sublime and all our Race Makers, thank you so much for supporting us and we look forward to seeing you all racing as soon as possible. Martin Jennings Race Director

Of course there'll be a lockdown in Jan- as cases will clearly rise after the Christmas get togethers. I must admit that the cynic in me thinks that the last 4 years has been all about breaking down the will of the people. First by dragging Brexit on, now by using Covid to bring in control measures we have never been subjected to before. I'm usually quite a positive person (honest guv) but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they cancel the Christmas bubble thing at the very last minute. Mind you, if they did, things couid get very interesting...

As is most of hampshire except for the blue few down the road, Portsmouth, Havent and Gosport. Isle of Wright is still tier 1, one of the f places to stay in that category.

Grandson coming Christmas Day afternoon as mum wants the 'day off'(don't ask) and son working Boxing Day and starts silly o'clock. We will not be eating Christmas Dinner as he likes........Pasta Shapes.....and I've got a nice fish dish that just needs hot oven. I won't go daughters(she wants me too) as she's having in laws and the Bubble is 2 households in Wales..TBH she's not cooking till 5pm and its a bit late for Iggy as son brings him exhausted so he will sleep. I would prefer this type of Christmas...am hoping to go away next year again.

I don't think it matters a jot WHAT is 'allowed' at Christmas - people will do what they want to and quite frankly it is their choice to do so... until supermarkets begin 'track and tracing' before letting you in, there is LITTLE point imho.
WE can all do our bit to protect MASS spreading in our daily lives ( hands/face/space ) but whilst ever we are going "shopping to buy food" - standing in lines of people to get into the supermarkets and queuing our way down a filter system , we are going to be spreading it left right and centre... masks or other wise.
These "lock downs" appear to do bugger all.
I actually got into a twitter spat the other day (briefly before putting my phone down and ignoring it) with some idiot moaning quoting Boris saying something along the lines of "we will not change the xmas rules as it's too close" and pointing out they did the day before "Eid" (however you spell it) ... I pointed out that the majority of the UK is "Christian in principle" so offending a not parochial (for want of a better description) religion, DID'NT matter to the majority of the uk populous. Ergo, The biggest thing in the Christian calendar involving "baby J".
He went off on one and I put my phone down and read a book.

I have no idea what tier I'm in and frankly I don't give a flying fuck. It's "do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" on this one I'm afraid. If I wanted to be told who I could and could not meet up with in my own home then I would go and live in North Korea, and petition Kim Jong-un for more repression.

Frankly despite all the chat I think this is what most people are actually doing. Paradoxically you seem more bothered by it then anybody else I am acquainted with.
