Simple really, Derbyshire police followed two cars from out of the county, they have issued warnings that its not allowed, clearly they had been shopping for coffee as the cups are disposable, so they stopped them and fined them for being stupid and breaking the law1 Last time they sent up drones and named and shamed law breakers, now they are fining them, its the only way to treat idiots because thats what they are. Rant over and I am sure the ladies wont repeat the mistake again I thought they drove for a few minutes. Socially distanced, broke no laws and were incorrectly fined? Anyway I believe their fines will be overturned. They did nothing wrong.

It is certainly very difficult to see that going for a walk in the country quite near ones home, is in some way irresponsible and likely to spread the virus.

Derbyshire police issues me thinks.
The police force, while incredibly useful for us upper (and I admit also some upper middle) class types is obviously liable to occasionally pull in some real idiot scumbag good for nothing jobsworths which could end up resulting in negative outcomes for those of a lower social standing. Let's face it it is improbable that a rozzer on the ground is going to be anything other than good old fashioned working class perhaps with aspirations to lower middle classes.
I have obviously never been impacted by this police issue but I do feel for those who occasionally are.
The benefits of being upper class know no bounds at least that's what I was told once.

Social interaction spreads the virus ... nothing else. Sitting in a car with your own household members doesn't ... So, if you've got Covid you can't give it to your family members whilst sitting in a car with them? OK, right you are! Of course you can ... but you'll already have done so cos you live with them ... that''s what 'household members' means ... arse ! Rog

No-one should be allowed to live in the same house (or boat) with another person. It's clearly mingling with one's family that is causing Covid to keep carrying on. Separated

They arnt from Derbtshire they are from another county on local news much support for police and the fine in this instance They were from another county, but very near the border. If you live 100 yards from a county border and step over it, should you be arrested and fined? Of course there is local support for the fines, when under stress everyone reverts to tribalism and NIBYism, especially country folk. Doesn’t mean it’s good thing though.

They arnt from Derbtshire they are from another county on local news much support for police and the fine in this instance I visited 3 different counties yesterday, didn’t break any laws. Obviously there will be some support for the fines, people such as yourself seem happy for us to be locked away, even when it’s obvious that some of the rules make little sense. I’d wager that you have stretched the odd law over the years? I certainly have, and probably do most days. Unless I’ve missed something on this story, the 2 women did nothing that would have harmed anyone, and they broke no laws. That’s why the fines are being reviewed.

Clearly there are plenty of cases that do deserve police action but it just takes one case of inappropriate police action (like someone driving 5 miles out of a town into the country for a walk) to discredit the whole thing.

68 million population ... ten months of restrictions ... 30,000 fines handed out.
It's not a massive problem but the 'dodgy' stories always take precedence.
I understand that there are around 120,000 police ... allowing for shift work, holidays, and sick leave ... how many police do you think are on duty at any given moment.
One must remember that the sole reason for news channels is to make reports ... the alloted time has to be filled with something.

We could do the same, drive up to Chatsworth or whatever for a walk, alternatively we can be on the Chesterfield canal in 5 mins walking, thats local. We also have some of the lowest infection rates in Derbyshire here, so maybe people obeying the rules are paying off? The Rules here are stay local and dont travel out of the area it seems to be working
