I have known so many people who are better off self medicating with common natural legal or illegal drugs than the brain chewing stuff they hand out like smarties to people who are temporarily and perfectly understandably overwhelmed by "normal" life events. By which I mean relationship break up, illness, job loss, death of loved one etc. Such things need dealing with not stalling forever. I do speak from experience of being prescribed such crap when frankly I was just reacting normally to one of the above. The result was that all aspects of my life continued to fall apart but now I didn't care. It would have been more use to ME if the doc had said "chin up, it's just stuff to deal with, get squiffy if you need to, but do try and chip away at the stuff, that's what will make you feel better". sadly there are times when 'normal' life events escalate to unmanageable proportions and I did struggle for years without any medication but following de personalisation episode which resulted in temporary blindness followed by a distancing of mind from the here and now ..meds necessary.. The only positive for me was that dealing with the side effects of going cold turkey after just 2 months was a welcome distraction! It felt like someone periodically got hold of the back of my brain and shook it for 2 seconds amongst other things. It's also surprising how many of these type of drugs have suicide as a possible side effect. I have a normally incredibly outgoing friend who sat under a blanket in the corner of a room in his ex-wife's house unable to speak to anyone for MONTHS while he weened himself off something similar then probably another few years getting back to himself. The reason he was doing that was because he found himself planning his suicide but had no idea why. I attempted to have him at mine to give her a break and lasted about 24 hours before I had to take him back. His view is the same as mine - the problems caused can be out of scale with the short term gain.

A few years ago when I was seeing the quack on account of the pneumonia I also asked him about the condition of the liver due to the drinking.
He had a look at said it was fine, and if I liked a glass of wine to carry on !
I never drink wine at all but anyway.
It was interesting that despite knowing I had other issues he did not at any point attempt to offer me any subscription or conscription drugs.
I thought this was quite a good approach really so I went and bought a couple of crates of beer.

“That behaviour is of course triggered as soon as someone disagrees with you. The sad thing is you don’t even realise it.” A clear cut case of pot calling the kettle black. You are clearly an intelligent chap, not up there with a Mr S Cooper (Big Bang Theory) but you do match him in the social skills department....

My mum was a regular wine consumer but not a heavy drinker at all. when she went on Citalopram for clinical depression she stopped drinking then when she was put on Venlafaxine she killed herself. Fairly obvious link there ! Better off on the wine me thinks.

Funny how trying to insult someone rather loses its sting when it is delayed 8 hours. But still, it doesn’t diminish your twattishness.

Clinical depression my arse (in my case) it was just carrying on the normal stuff with divorce and all that entails on top getting a bit much. I found Citalopram + 2 bottles of wine + a spliff was quite good but cutting it all back to nothing at all got the problems solved faster!

If you had any backbone you would at least find your own battle, not piggyback on someone else’s. But then you never were a nice person so I shouldn’t be surprised at your weakness.

Oh dear you appear to have gone into emotional overdrive! you said earlier that you were not nasty until someone was nasty to you, my statement re pots kettles and black, was more chiding than nasty, you however have escalated this into really vile nastiness, that says a lot about you.
I shall not engage with you again on this subject, you are just a vile specimen not worthy of further attention, so go on and have your last word...

Jolly good, the feeling is entirely mutual.

Anyone else want to come out of the woodwork to have a pop? You might as well get it out of your system, then perhaps we can carry on as normal.

I disagree - he IS a nice person x How on EARTH do you equate someone's "niceness" with their "weakness"? You truly are SO judgemental. There really is no justification in such personal attacks when someone doesn't agree with you.
