I'm a bit ahead of myself here as winter 21 is going to be in Aston Marina (already sorted) but I'm now planning winter 22 and would like to be 'somewhere' on the Warwickshire ring.
Having only hired down there (although I'm doing bits of it this year), I don't know which areas are prone to flooding - given recent weather events (and last years close call on the aire & calder), I'd rather be somewhere NOT vulnerable.
Another 'must have' on my list is Shoreline and shops within walking distance (by that I mean 2-3 miles I suppose ) .
You guys all have a lot more knowledge of the network than I do I'm sure - so if anyone has recommendation of (ideally) marinas somewhere on the ring that they've found particularly good, I'd be very grateful for any advice.

No bother with floods on the ring, it’s all canal.

I Was thinking about lower areas where rivers 'leak' over into etc. I noted that the T & M at Stone was up a 1ft this week about 1n innch off the top of the (fixed) pontoons due to the trent leaking over...

Dunchurch Pools Marina which has not long opened seems to have a good reputation. Don't know how far it is from shops and anything much else about it though.

Forgive me, but if you are referring to GU into Birmingham, Birmingham & Fazeley to Fazeley junction, Coventry canal, north Oxford and back via Braunston to GU ... I would suggest Fazeley Mill Marina as a great place. Easy access into Tamworth (pleasant walk although regular buses) and retail parks and a very friendly, small reasonably priced marina too. Train station in the town and an Enterpise Hire base five minutes walk from the marina ... it's got it all. Of the many marinas we've stopped at, it's our favourite. There's even short lock free cruises in three directions for those odd, ice free, sunny days Rog

We put our boat there in 2011 and have had no desire to move it anywhere else since (well apart from when we go out cruising, obvs.). Although it is now owned by ABC the “management” hasn’t changed and it’s still Jackie and Ruth, both very nice friendly people. It’s NOT one of those marinas with long lists of rules and regulations and if you fart at the wrong time it’s “GET ORF MOI MARINA”. Oh and the diesel is pretty cheap too, 10% discount for moorers. Downsides are that it is next to a road that is very busy during the day /rush hour (but silent at night) so try to get a berth on the canal side rather than the road side, and recently a whole lot of trees were cut down on the far side of the canal. Although you can’t really see that from inside the marina, it does seem to have made the noise from the industrial estate beyond, a bit more noticeable ditto the screams from dying children at a Drayton Manor Park. So it’s not a silent rural marina, but for us (and I dislike noise) it’s still fine. If you want silent, sister marina at Kings Orchard might be better but then it has much less in the way of local facilities within walking distance.

Oh yes ... never thought about the negatives. Telemachus 's boat is there ... on the plus side again however ... he's mostly in Aberdeen. Rog

Barry Hawkins yard half way up the Atherstone flight, less than £200, nothing much in terms of facilities but they do sell gas and coal, pump out is a bit hit and miss, good thing is it’s nice and close to Atherstone town that has plenty of pubs, shops and two supermarkets only a ten minute walk.
Spring wood haven is nice but no live aboard a and in the middle of knowhere
Alvercote is a bit crap and middle of knowhere
New one just about to open between Atherstone and Nuneaton, in the middle of know where
Couple down towards rugby on the north Oxford that I know nothing about.
Not sure Birmingham has to offer in terms of marinas.

No licence need in Barry’s yard also, which makes the rent half price

Not sure Birmingham has to offer in terms of marinas. Birmingham is really just the city centre Sherborne Wharf. Very central, and birmingham is a great city these days, but it’s pretty expensive. Alvecote is pretty grim IMO, very narrow rickety pontoons, windswept and bleak. Malcolm the owner is into historic boats and so if you don’t have one, you are a second class citizen.

Could venture up the Ashby also, trinity marina at Hinckley is close to town or market bosworth but not a lot up there only a little co op which isn’t cheap when weekly shopping.
