It's working people like me who are paying your pensions. So you pay your tax to the Uk government? I think it goes directly to the Daily Mail.

Take a breath and read what I've just written. Not sure how you could pay my pension as you don't live here. Take a breath and read what he had written, he said "working people like me" not I am paying your pension. OK Foxy

People should pay for their own care. If they own property then it should be sold.
Tories looking after their rich mates again is all that is happening.
Nobody in the last two generations of my family has ever been in a care home but quite a lot of them died before their time from accidents or suicides. If I was ever in that position ie physically or mentally disabled enough to be incompetent I would discuss with my children and opt for assisted dying IF it is legal.
Much better solution to the problem of old people with no reason to be alive other than to make parasite care home owners richer.
How the hell can it cost so much? Someone is taking good profits from all this.
Too grim!

I like Andrew a lot but he lives in a bubble which is this far unpenetrated by reality. Lucky boy.

£700 a week does seems slightly unreal to me to deal with an old person in a home with a load of other old people.
I could see it if it was individual care but in a group setting?

Getting a wall plastered is such a burn. I mean, the materials cost little. So how come it's so expensive? Oh yeah, the labour. Getting a stranger to clean bums, wash clothes, supervise bathing, cook food and all the other things like listening (example only) doesn't come free. And I assure you it isn't easy which is why so many choose to out-source the problem. And that's the real issue.

Care of dementia patients is hugely labour intensive ... as anyone who has experienced caring for a single family member will tell you.
That's without beginning to consider any other medical issues the person may have.
Someone has to be available, watching 24 hours a day.
The care home Jane's sainted Mum was in had approximately twenty five such patients, almost all physically able to move around wreaking havoc, with little comprehension of danger.
Even for basic needs, the ratio of carers to patients has to be high, and the wage bill is always one of the highest overheads.

In our family we just let anyone who is in trouble go and hang themselves or blow their brains out with a 12 bore in a woodland. Although actually one of my uncles looked after his own mother and father in his house until they both died. The father in this case was gone in the head for ages. That's the same side as all the suicides, bizarrely. He's still alive that uncle, about 95 and living independently. Being honest about it the self-removal option, while being too much of a taboo in general in society, is actually quite a clever arrangement. Not very nice for people who did care though and a significant danger of "giving permission" to future generations. It's troubling when they do it at 50 with no physical illness as was the case with my cousin. That is a concern but one less human I suppose. Plenty of them about ! She was one daughter of the 96 year old uncle. It's like he is going as long as possible to get the average age up having had two brothers a sister and a daughter kill themselves !

"Who finds you" is indeed an important question.
In my mum's case it was her home visiting NHS worker who I -presume- had training around dealing with major depression. She hanged herself from a hook on bedroom door.
One of the uncles back in the 50s ate his 12 bore and a dog walker found him. NOT nice.
Another uncle it was his daughter who found him hanging from a tree. Nasty.
Cousins hanged herself I think she was in her garden so I guess a relative found her.
It is best if it's a professional I feel.
I did find a suicide man in the Thames years ago, checked for jewelry but someone had already had it, then rozzers were summoned.
Didn't disturb me much but I think the gun one would be bad.
