The question is, why doesn't the halfords car radio work? Is it connected to an external aerial?

I realise everything is possible, but I just want a portable radio with batteries. Is R4 only on the Internet, that is ridiculous. I don't know about data, I get messages about it from my tablet and my phone, but as they are supposed to be unlimited, I just ignore them, and check my bills. I am constantly having to re charge my phone and my tablet, its a pain. I have 600 ah battery power, I dont want to charge up each item twice a day. And I don't want to buy another fucking gadget that lasts six months and needs to be replaced, sorry, I just want a radio that plugs into the mains most of the day, but when unplugged will have a charged battery, and work for another day. The only station I am interested in is R4, and Classic fm, at the moment al I can get is R Lancaster, and other jingles with ads, No you can still get radio 4 on FM (and DAB). Our point is that you already have the equipment needed to listen to radio 4 - your phone with unlimited data. Ok the sound quality isn’t great from a phone speaker, hence the Bluetooth speaker. I have an Aukey speaker and it lasts several days of normal use between charges, with pretty good sound quality. The reason why you are struggling to find a suitable radio is that the world has moved on and a device that serves only one purpose has been made redundant by a device that serves a myriad of purposes. In other words, virtually no-one buys radios these days! Streaming audio from a phone uses very little power. If your phone won’t last a day, it’s probably because the battery is knackered. I will find R4 om NY phone, and make sure the Bluetooth is shown as live, and turn on the new radio thing to Bluetooth mode. Il be astounded if it works, and remember the radio thing only works for 6 hours!

I have a Roberts stream 83i (not portable, no batteries). It very rarely works satisfactorily on its built in aerial on either DAB or FM unless an external aerial is fitted. It is marginally better if put near one of the bus windows, but is the main reason I favour using a radio app on my phone and a BT speaker. This radio thing I have bought claims to have Bluetooth mode, what does that mean, it has no sound in that mode, but it has a speaker. Phone also has bluetoothmode, so, do I need to spend even more on some shortlived gadget when a portable radio did all these things at minimal cost for a generation. In that case you already have what you need. You just need to put the radio into Bluetooth mode, pair the phone to the radio/speaker, play radio 4 from the BBC sounds App on the phone and that’s it. Reading the instructions for pairing is recommended! You only have to pair the phone and radio once, after that they will remember each other. For Classic FM you need a different App on your phone, global player or the ClassicFM app.

I suspect it is used for connecting your Bluetooth enable smart phone to, either to make phone calls, or to stream music from the phone to the stereo, but the user manual will have the definitive answer. Have you read it?

I’ve always found pure radios to have the best reception. You get rechargeable battery packs for them. They do have dab as well as fm on though.

As I said, best to read the radio’s instruction booklet to find out how to do it.

The question is, why doesn't the halfords car radio work? Is it connected to an external aerial? Indeed, the original car radio (Dab) stopped working and I bought replacement from Halford. There was no aerial, but one was retro fitted, it works sometimes, so it's not the aerial. It works intermittently, so I assume there is a loose wire, there are several wires, but that was the reason I asked an "electrician", he came back to fit the aerial. Most of the time it does not have power. Anyway, I can't hear the front speakers from the tuning station, and the rear speakers are too small anyway, so I've given up.

I don't have instructions, it's Hafury phone, can I get a manual on the Internet? Update, I found a YouTube vlog, so all I did was presthe Bluetooth bit on the phone, they are now paired. SO do I do something tablet, regarding Bluetooth, I'm not sure which is the slave re phone or tablet, but I expect the tablet does things that might be usefull

You probably want a portable radio with batteries then (Ideally one with an external aerial socket that will take your current aerial fitting) ETA.You won't go far wrong with either Pure or Roberts as already suggested. Both good makes.

Take all your technology and throw it away. Life will be so peaceful with no gadgets. 😯😉

I don't have instructions, it's Hacury phone, can I get a manual on the Internet? one app for everything to do with the BBC, another app for each other station probably. No I mean the instructions for the radio. You need to put the radio into pairing mode, sometimes called “discoverable”. After you’ve done that, for the phone you just need to have the Bluetooth control page showing (Settings … Bluetooth) , make sure Bluetooth is turned on, then you should see the radio name appear in the list of devices (there’ll probably be only 1 device if you haven’t used it before). Tap on it, the pairing process takes just a few seconds, then you’re ready to go. Back to the BBC or Classic FM app, play your stuff! Next time, the phone will automatically play through the radio, if the radio is on and in Bluetooth mode, and Bluetooth on the phone is still turned on. Only downside is that if the phone rings and you answer, it will come through the radio speaker until you turn it off!

Not the signal, but the speakers or power supply, as far as I can make out anyway..

Both good makes. Good idea about ext aerial, except that aerial is mounted on the sliding hatch, but it will stop radio falling in to the cut if I happen to bash into something unexpectedly! PS it's the power supply to the radio which is faulty, the unit either is On, ie lit, or not, varies depending on setting of the three isolator switches[sigh] %

We have a Roberts Solar DAB 2, does FM too. Depending where we are sometimes have to put it in a window. Also use BBC Sounds app on phone through Minirig BT Speaker. If you are worried about phone running out of juice fit some usb sockets around the boat. Easy to catch up on stuff you've missed on Sounds too. 2pcs 3.1A Car Dual USB Charger Adapter 2 Port USB Charging Socket Charging Panel Mount 12V-24V for Mobile Phone Tablet Android Devices PDA GPS smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TVNDY3P/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_F32GV7GD39BY18D61623?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
