Socks asked for help/advice and @twerp responded speedily ... get out of the lock ! Rog Not so ! What the Twerp said was -- "wouldn’t really be happy sitting in a lock overnight".
I advised that the boat must be got out of the lock as first priority, and without delay : - "Dave's right, . . first priority is to get the boat out of the lock and tied up in the summit pound. Whatever you do, DON'T stay in the lock overnight -- it's too risky."
If the lock starts draining down whilst you're asleep you could well end up turning an inconvenience into a disaster."_____________________________________________________________________________________________ Keep your posting factual and truthful, or keep out of it. There's more than enough distracting drivel in this thread already without you adding any more of your own special brand of mindless claptrap. As we've managed to drive away the ONLY person present at the time of the incident, who could clarify whether it was night or day or if their insurance is appropriate, and what EXACTLY happened, it all becomes rather moot and irrelevant ... we'll probably never know the details or the outcome now. But you carry on slapping yourself on the back and congratulation yourself (even though @twerp gave the critical advice first whatever you say). It's all quite sad that we keep driving posters away ... Socks and Rusty69 on this thread alone. Rog

After reading your post, I went back to the documentation to see if I was reading the one for the barge ........ but I wasn't !
It's the certificate for the 25.5' ft narrowbeam cruiser !!! That will be a cruiser policy😉 different from a narrowboat policy, just as the barge one is different again. 😎 I doubt that, they quoted for and insured a 25'6" x 6'5" beam Ormelite GRP canal boat with an inboard diesel engine of 12 Hp they didn't ask for anything else.
There is no difference in use or area of use from amy other canal boat (apart from the Standege tunnel that those ....... at CRT won't let me use but won't give me a discount for not being able to)

I'd prefer to keep as many posters as possible ... even those I disagree with or those that call my posts "bollocks".

No doubt it was, inside your tunnel (mental or physical). But as I pointed out, "dark" is not relevant and not defined. "Night" is relevant and defined as per my previous. Well, relevant if it was a condition of Sock's policy, which it probably wasn't.
And anyway, without specifiying where "here" is your post remains meaningless. Or maybe you didn't realise that night falls at different times according to where you are on the planet. Or even where you are within this country. you are being sarcastic without being sure of your facts.
Her first post was at 17.43 inside that legal definition of daylight hours. But I will add that in England and Wales the road vehicle and lighting regulations state that Night (the hours of darkness) is defined as the period between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise. I don't have a policy so can't check but I very much believe that in a policy it would have its own definition of night.

I only stay because it’s fascinating watching a bunch of barely functional people interacting with each other in an uncontrolled way, and in the process slowly and inexorably destroying themselves, I wonder if there is the equivalent of a “Site of Special Scientific Interest” for an internet site? it would make a great subject for a psychology PhD dissertation.
It’s a great lesson in why we need leaders who aren’t that concerned what other people think of them, such as Boris Johnson. All hail Bojo!

Odd way of putting it. I do not adhere to the principle of having a leader anyway. I can easily destroy myself by making shit life choices in general and internet forum use is not one of those choices !

I don't have a policy so can't check but I very much believe that in a policy it would have its own definition of night. I wasn't commenting on the actual time that socks broke her rudder. I was commenting on the notion proposed by Telemachus that because he was able to safely land a glider at 30 minutes after sunset that that time could not be considered "night" I find that a bizarre idea that a legal definition can be decided by the particular conditions on any given day.
We all know that there are days when the conditions are such that you do not have sufficient light before sunset to complete normal tasks. On the other hand there are some clear days where it is light a long time before sunrise or for a very long time after sunset. Therefore a legal definition must be based purely on the time of sunset/sunrise. or a set amount + or -
The nearest general definition of day/night I could find was sunrise to sunset
