I haven't fallen for anyone's propaganda Kris. I'm just being realistic. It’s just being a bit simplistic. Of course prices will rise. But crt are using it as a way of getting rid of boaters. Wait for the announcements about parts of the network being shut. Maybe you think It’s okay for crt to create t&c’s claiming they don’t have maintain the waterways to a navigable standard? I see your realism as pessimism, maybe it’s because you’ve been on the water so long and seen the continual decline.

It does make sense to charge more for something like a continuous cruiser licence.
You do get a lot for the money. If this is about people who can not afford normal housing then you can claim on Universal credit for your housing costs. If it isn't, and you can afford more then you can pay more or go away.
At the end of the day the CRT is going to have a problem because government funding is going to be reduced. This is inevitable.
People living on boats getting their costs paid by the state means continued government funding of canals. It also gives people who may be in precarious situations more security.
I am in favour of people living on boats but there are limits to the reasonableness.
I don't think it is all that useful to just have a go at the management. Maybe it is useful but it seems more interesting to consider what might happen in the real world if there is a funding shortfall.
Would we rather see canals falling apart or people paying more to use them?

You do get a lot for the money. This is complete bollox, along with much of the other stuff you come up with. What we get for the money has declined, owing to the fact sub contractors now take a profit that was not previously present. CRT have a reasonable income, along with 1.1 billion in assets. Ideally it could be more, but the fact is it would still be squandered by a not fit for purpose management team. To be fair, you're a self confessed drop out who readily admits to not participating in life matters, so I suppose I should concentrate on reminding myself of that when I see some of the drivel you tend to post.

OK
So you are telling me that a thousand pounds a year to be able to use more than a thousand miles of canals as and when you wish is too expensive.
Right.
Obviously this relies on you having a narrow boat so does not apply to everyone.
As for drivel I am happy to filter it based on how well mannered people are.
You appear, on the face of it, to be devoid of manners.
So yeah.

For me it’s £1500-1600 a year to be able to use less than a third of the network. The L&L was only open for six weeks last year. Also lots of facilities that where once available have been closed and removed. As for having ago at the management who else is responsible for squandering the resources that they do have. They are not a poor organization, they have proven to be incapable of the job so should be removed and replaced with a less management heavy structure. Personally I think that huge increases in license fees will lead to more license evasion which they have proven themselves incapable of dealing with already, which ultimately will lead to less money being raised. You have to take into account the baby boomers with good pensions are dying out. Oh I forgot to mention there will a £200 increase on that price already this year.

Good luck with changing the system.

Good luck with changing the system. Im not after changing the system, just maybe helping ensure there is a waterways network for future generations to enjoy. I don’t even have any kids either. If it gets really bad I’ll join the exodus of larger ex commercial boats that have already fled from goole to the other side of the humber.

Is the idea of paying more for such a wonderful lifestyle really all that terrible?

Yes, because I’m not as lucky as you. I have to go out and earn my money.

Yes, because I’m not as lucky as you. I have to go out and earn my money. Yes but housing always tends to attract costs. Some people even pay rent or mortgages. If you don't have enough money you can claim for help with costs from the state. This does apply to the cost of licensing a boat. If you can demonstrate need for financial assistance you will be helped.

Especially as a white English male without any dependents. I’d rather not take the dole anyway, I’d rather support myself. Once your on the drip it’s like being a drug addict. But personally I won’t be giving crt a third of my income for the right to float on a muddy ditch. (I use a third because think is the average that people on minimum wage pay out to landlords.)

One was in the Henlwy on Thames job centre today as it happens. Yes, the CRT are getting money from the government for my hugely expensive London mooring.
It is terrible to be such a fraud but these things happen.
I'm just glad I managed to hide the money so effectively and in good time. Deprivation of assets is a risky old game to play but there are ways of doing it with advanced planning.
Gold is great but you have to bury it well.
One must be careful as these walls have ears and I have identified the job centre. There will be a whistleblower I think.

It is an interesting psychological shift from being a twat to being a state supported twat. I think I am probably eligible as nobody would ever give me a job anyway. It is going to be a funny adventure going to all the interviews just to be told to fuck off.

Wow I’ll be amazed if the local authority will pay £1000 a month for your mooring. Maybe this is crts cunning plan make the waterways so expensive that the only people who can afford it are the ones claiming it. If they keep getting so much money from the government though they are going to have to except that they are landlords.
