Our friends (older than us) with whom we have gone boating for the last 6 times we have hired, have just (Friday) expressed an interest in another narrow boat holiday. This is a little unexpected as they have both had major health issues in recent years. They are obviously feeling better, so I have been tasked with arranging it, as usual. This is the purpose of my post: due to other commitments I think this will now be 2024 and my instructions are β donβt take me through fucking Birmingham againβ. So where should we go? I fancy oop north, but stoppages? Breaches? Low water? I donβt intend spending thousands only to be marooned with nowhere to go. All answers gratefully recieved, I reserve the right to be rude to windup merchants.. Alyson Well the Shroppie, Llangollen, Staffs and Worcs, mid section of the Trent and Mersey (Stoke to Burton), Coventry, N Oxford and mainline GU are not often closed. Where would you be starting from? This year we thought we would be clever and head downhill to follow the water, ie down to the below sea level fenlands (middle level). But now the Nene is closed!π€

There's always water and any problems are sorted out instantly because of the amount of holiday traffic.

But now the Nene is closed!π€ Llangollen and Oxford had crossed my mind, thank you. As we live in deepest, darkest West Wales and have to drive anyway, we will be starting from anywhere with a decent hire boat, last hire was with Napton Narrowboats, so my next question should be who are the decent hire companies around those areas? I did have my eye on Narrowboat Jacaranda which was a boat for hire by a one boat family, not signed as a hire boat. I quite fancied not being patronised by the shiny boaters π€£ however they have stopped hiring it out π’

Find out where quaysider plans to be ... and book somewhere else π As Vince says, the Llangollen is the obvious choice or the Four Counties Ring ... seem the main thoroughfares that are the most reliable (if that can be said of anywhere these days). Rog

I think Andersen are generally regarded as the bestest hire fleet on the Llangollen. I've no experience of them but their boats always look immaculate. Probably not the cheapest though.

Always lots of Norwegians on Andersen boats. I was told the owner is Norwegian, which makes sense given his name and the boat names, all named after fjords, and that the main part of his business model is advertising British narrowboat holidays in Norway.

That's quite a clever idea; the Norwegians can afford it.

Anyway looks alright again.
Back to the country estate for a bit.
Major operation taking place this week in that I have to Tidy And Clean the country estate boat for a visit by the angelic offsprings next weekend.
This is considerable in that my boats are never in the slightest bit clean or tidy.
So yeah. Oh well tomorrow there is some rain so this could be a good opportunity to do something.
In reality I'll probably blitz it on Friday as it will just get messy again in the meantime.
It is quite shocking in a number of different ways having to maintain two boats in completely different places but worse things do happen at sea.
22 degrees and a breeze is nice summer weather in my book.

What, even though Norway isn't in the eu? They kept state control of the oil and gas. And they are one of the biggest consumers of electric cars per head of population.
Funny contradiction in a number of different ways.

There is that and this is kind of mentioned in one of my favourite songs

I have seen, and nearly run over by, more EV here in London during the past week, than I have seen over the whole of last year up in the midlands.London in many ways, could be in a different country.
