The skips when sited at Sutton Cheney were accessible for emptying (large car park) and were adjacent to the C&RT owned, but leased out cafe (for which a new secured compound has been created for their skips). And CCTV is present on the car park area. The Lime Kiln site is close to Hinckley making it more easily accessible to none boat users, where as Sutton Cheney Wharf is quite splendidly remote. I think the solution for now is (to miss quote Roy Scheider) "We're gunner need a bigger bin" Rog The bins as Sutton C were regularly abused by fly tippers. Once saw a 3 seater settee and matching pair of chairs there. Doubt they came from a boat, unless it was a wide beam…Years ago the bins were secured behind fence and gates, these were soon kicked in. Relocating to the Kilns kinda makes sense to me. The pub gaffer will keep a sharp eye on any fly tipping and d imagine, he is that type of guy.

The conversation will continue, as will the abuse of facilities. The facilities at Autherly Junction are always a mess, usually within a couple of hours of being cleaned. With the huge estate adjacent, it will never improve until the local authority takes a proactive part in its refuse, sorry, recycling policy, as people will be people and take advantage of any option that is easier than the right one. We have had similar at our Club, where we have a large bin for our refuse from the club, and light refuse from mooring members. There have been occasions when visitors abuse the facility and dump all sorts of unsuitable waste like carpets, oil and filters etc. They have also in the past blocked our sewage disposal with pump outs that we cannot handle with our macerator, and these are affiliated AWCC members.

Don't put anything in the lavatory that has not been in your mouth.

A legal challenge has to have a basis in law. There is no law requiring CRT to provide rubbish (or any other type of) facilities. I am all in favour of encouraging CRT to provide such facilities at reasonable intervals, but not point in getting all “wishful legal” about it. Could be worse, on the River Nene (EA Waters) there are basically no rubbish facilities in what is a 3 or 4 day journey to traverse. Lots of signs saying “take your rubbish home” which is not helpful if you live aboard or are out for a while. The Gt Ouse is marginally better, but still several days between rubbish facilities. We found bins fairly easy to find on the Nene as we tend to use the council ones that are dotted around towns and parklands. Certainly not that many EA facilities. Generally a clean rubbish free river though so it seems to work as it is. Yes this was the saving grace but I did feel rather guilty putting boat rubbish into park bins designed for the odd sandwich wrapper etc. I don’t contribute financially to the council bins, I do contribute to the EA.

I tend to rope all the countries services into one. I figure I pay more than a fair share of tax to various tax collectors, so I have no qualms over whose bins I’m filling.

Can't help you really BUT I saw mention yesterday on Jane's Facebook that it is still broken but Anglowelsh will let you use their hose for £3.00 (I know ... but they're on a water metre and have to pay their bills 😁) That's what we did as we came through ... didn't want to rush through Rugeley (launderette etc.) or divert up to Stone either. Not good is it. Rog Thanks for that dogless and apologies for the late reply. Lost my signal when I moved (someone must have slipped my rope off that waterpoint bollard while I was sleeping .... ). Heard a towpath rumour this afternoon that there is no (visible) leak at Gt Haywood waterpoint(s) but the reason for the delay is that "they" (?CRT/water board?) are trying to establish a swipe card system so that we pay for the water. With close proximity to the main road and easy vehicular access to the waterpoints, apparently there has been much abuse of the water there from non-boaters. I hasten to add this is just second hand rumour mongering but ...

Interesting metanoia ... but in all my years passing the water points there, I've never seen anything but boaters drawing water (excluding the odd dog walker filling a water bowl). Rog ETA it is of course, as well you know (having moored there for weeks on end so MANY times) , an extremely busy facility

It does make sense for a number of different reasons. Firstly you can get some money (joke) and secondly you can observe how militant and willing to damage things the people living on boats are. I'd say it was quite a clever move but would need close monitoring and could be costly. The CRT do need to somehow work out how many people they have on their books who are looking to take advantage. I doubt they are this organised.

ETA - I keep misremembering that someone here deems me to be a continous moorer always on a waterpoint - just wonder which one?

My local bins (several miles and two locks away) have recently been revamped.
Nothing has really changed, boaters need a key and almost always lock up after using, access from public side nearly always unlocked...
Worst I've seen is a full kitchen just dumped, no way did that come off a boat, it filled every bin plus the compound plus some of the surrounding area.
Aparently requests to CRT to provide a padlock on the public access side have been unofficially responded to by stating that the 'contractors' don't like having to unlock the gates and carry different keys ........
