A question for Jim really. How easy is it to use another battery if I was to buy some other Lifepo4 batteries to power my bike using a bafang motor.? Which is the best lcd option?

Can you get the same voltage profile with LFP batteries? I thought the speed controllers had a low voltage cutout which might kick in too early if you are not using the normal NMC ebike battery.

This is why I’m asking. I’ll have to wait until uncle Jim looks in. Your could you tag him? I still don’t know how to do that.

I think I've heard of lfp bats on an ebike. The controllers are programmable, I know the KT 24a one I fitted on the bent twin is, through the display, including low voltage levels etc. The one I got is 36/48v, though I'm running it with the 36v from the hybrid, can't ride them both at once. For a more definitive answer go to the pedelecs forum.

What motor have you got, hub or mid? Have you got a display and controller? I can't see that the battery chemistry makes much difference, as long as it can supply the needed amps at the right voltage. An adult might be along shortly...

Shirley the real issue is weight and bulk Doesn't seem to bother most e-cyclists, there's some chubsters around. Always tickles me that fat cyclists spend thousands on saving a few grammes with an expensive carbon frame when eating fewer pies would achieve the same end. Seriously, the motor will cope, I've pulled an extra 50k in my trailer no bother.

I can't see that the battery chemistry makes much difference, as long as it can supply the needed amps at the right voltage. An adult might be along shortly... I haven’t got a motor yet. But I intend to buy a bafang mid 36v 500w. One like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363360209604?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=aukvbbwvrdy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=SBdU5cN_THe&var=632568524846&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPYI remember you telling us you can turn them down. So I’ll run it at 250w most of the time but be able to switch it up when towing a trailer. I might get one off the frame mounted batteries. But I’ve got the chance of some 36v Lifepo4 blocks. Could you ask for me on peddlers jim? I’ll be a newbie and they will all attack me. Your an established respected member I’m sure, so will get a good answer😀 I’m planing to convert my post office bike so I need to decide how many teeth the chain ring is best at. I need brake levers and I believe I need to find out the width of the bottom bracket. Which controller have you got Jim and why? Which is the best? Regards kris

First thing, despite also having a cohort of elderly right wing grumpfuttocks Pedelecs isn't cwdf, they dont pile in on newbies. A search for lipofe brings up www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/search/2121401/?q=Lifepo&o=date It looks like they are often used. A 250w bbs01b will do everything you need, with a programming cable and the android Speed app (3 "e"s) you can program the controller. My kit from Woosh came with throttle and brake levers, bafang controller. I bought a KT 24a controller for the bent twin. My 250w motor does everything you mention, I fitted a 42t cog for a bit of low down poke on the bridleways. I did up the amps from 15ah to 18ah to give 350w just to see, but didn't need it. As I said before, I pulled a huge wad of cash in the trailer no problem, up a couple of steep hills too. If The Dibble get busy with the legalities of ebikes, it would bbe hard to tell you have upped the amps, motor is correctly engraved. The throttle can definitely be made legal , £60 or so to get single vehicle type approval and the throttle is legal, still counts as a pedelec, no insurance, reg no. etc needed.

Does your electric bike have wide tires and drum brakes? They all add to drag.

I thought it was the voltage that altered speed I thought amp altered distance so what would the effect be of 75amp/hr 36v battery be iwas hoping to get about 100 miles of range?

I want to use a single wheel trailer that I have got but I used to put 50kg on the bike and about 75kg on the trailer. When I was a little bit younger I went to Ireland on it like that, I could cycle about 50-60 miles a day depending on the terrain. My knees won’t cope anymore, hence the electric motor.
