Had hoped to gatecrash (yours, not your nephew's - shudder!!) but the Llan has been so very busy this year I turned back... I fear Ellesmere might be turning into the new Hebden Bridge! Enjoy, Trina - hope to catch up with you out here again soon x Looking at Jane's fb and the boat vloggers we watch, it seems the world and its dog is on the Llangollen for winter. Out of curiosity metanoia how far did you get before you abandoned and turned back ? Rog I turned at Hampton Bank dogless - having been warned how busy Ellesmere was this year... You could have apprised me of all that fb/vlogger stuff! There are a lot of very, very new boats up here. Seems they are all "living the dream" but, unfortunately, all in the same place at the same time!! It has been lovely to revisit after three years' absence and to catch up with a few locals along the way who remembered me (and George) even if it was to find one has given up his boat, one's lost another two of his dogs and his wife is housebound and yet another is awaiting a new knee.

Get a job in retail ... you'll be listening to Christmas songs from early November 😁 Rog Yes. I had the misfortune of having to queue to pay at Iceland on 10% discount day with xmas tunes blasting away. To be fair, I wasn't the only one moaning about it. 'I'm here to shop, not to partake in a rave' would be a succinct summarisation. I complained, they turned it down.

The 'received wisdom' bandied around it appears, is that the Llangollen is the place for liveaboards in winter because, due to the flow from the Dee, it rarely freezes. Whether or not that's entirely accurate, it seems it may explain how busy you found it. We went up as far as Chirk in May 2020 immediately after the first lock-down ... don't think we'll ever see it as quiet as that again. Rog

Walked down the Ellesmere arm this afty & there are a fair few spaces. The area by Blackwater Marina has also got loads of space.Where have they all gone as there were more boats around last week ? Popped to Llangollen yesterday & it was so quiet in the town, you would have been able to hear a mouse fart...🐀

This one of the advantages of mooring 1 mile up the Shroppie from Barnhurst Sewage Plant. The canal rarely freezes until it has passed through the stopgate by what used to be Boulton and Paul aircraft factory when a gate was installed at each end of the factory in the war.

Which is mainly remembered for producing some 'bloody useless' aeroplanes.

Even better version when he was older with the grandchildren and the rather spiffing log burner.
Not all that convinced about selling the kids but I suppose if it makes a bit of money its worth considering.

I suppose the Pogues one is going to be popular. No idea whats going on in the charts but one of the geysers died so one could perhaps guess that something will happen.
