The Mean Fiddler bloke turned up on my mooring a few yars ago with a wide bean canal boat and he had the same birthday as me. Mr Vince Power. Irish fella.
Bit of a cunt but I guess he knew about music and promotion. He left after a few months due to some issues around him thinking my mooring spot was his mooring spot. He almost got my mooring contract terminated by the CRT from being obstinate but he was wrong. Bye Bye.
I don't generally take to people with attitude problems. Not my bag.

Never met him, it takes a certain type of person to run a club like the Mean Fiddler and deal with all the shite that happens. Not my cup of tea.

I just noticed the weather forecast.
It looks suspiciously like the River night be down to 100 cumecs through Maidenhead by Christmas day.
Possibility of a nice little run up to Henley or perhaps down to Eton and back in the Podium launch on the much feted day.
Will look into it.
Its good because it can do ten knots and make very little wash due to having an Environment Agency Wash Certificate.
Not that I race about but if one needs to get back on account of getting short of time it can be handy.

Looks like the strong winds are here until after the weekend. Rog It's been pretty wild out here today - white horses on the canal! I've often been out here in very windy conditions - safely moored, I hasten to add - though the lack of trees means being exposed to a crosswind which has changed direction during the day but the strangest thing today is that the wind hasn't abated since about 4 o'clock this morning. Thoughts are with the likes of Mr Stabby, dogless, and thebfg soldiering on to give the punters what they think they want and need for Christmas. Hope everyone is safe and secure.

Due to a self-inflicted IT issue I have been solely using the phone for connectivity purposes. While I realise many do not give two shits about such things, I would like to report that the amusingly-titled Duckduckgo browser is very good in that it most closely resembles the familiar Windows desktop. But virtual keyboards suck balls.

....Just to be the man who gets a thousand miles awayay from your front door.
And I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man thats got away from you!
When I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man thats havering to me !
When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the man who wakes up without you.
And I would walk ten thousand miles and I would walk ten thousand more just to be the man who ended up being twenty thousand miles away from your door.
Innit lovely.
Gotta love the Proclaimers.

Christmas lunch is starting to look like Brussel sprouts served in a blue cheese sauce and garnished with anchovies. I may fry a chicken leg. I have a bottle of port which will be a struggle to not open before the over-rated festival.

I'll be putting the sprouts on tomorrow - no they will not be boiled for 5 days like grandma used to do!
Sprouts, par boiled, then fried with bacon (including the bacon fat) plus a few splashes of balsamic, cook till soft (otherwise I'll get told off by Mum), cool, fridge and reheat on the day. Better than trying to do everything on the day in my opinion.

I've now been told that there is work for me Wednesday-Friday next week if I want it, so I said "Ok". Four days off will be nice but by Wednesday I'll be starting to get bored. Plus I don't really want to use up my accumulated holiday, I'd sooner have the cash readies when I leave, or the time off in the Summer if I decide to work through next year. Haven't made my mind up about that yet but I could do with building up some savings in case I retire from work in 2025 when I reach pensionable age.
I'll carry on working if I can, I enjoy my job (most of the time) and the social aspect is just about right for me, 10-15 minutes chatting with other people then on my own for the next few hours. I'm not really a "people person" to be honest.

We drove down to the boat today. Really windy in Aberdeen, gusting to 60mph. I told Jeff that it would get less windy as we drove south. Turns out that was wrong, it was really windy all the way! The only amazing thing was that despite fairly heavy traffic most of the way, there was no congestion/accidents etc. I was sure that at any moment the motorway would grind to a halt with a toppled lorry, cars sideswiping due to a gust etc. But no, we made good time.

Home from work and only two shifts left now. Glad Mr Stabby made it home safely ... well got out of South Yorkshire anyway 😊 Horrible blustery night. Hope our intrepid full time boaters are sheltered and cosy. Rog
