Try reading what it says about the use of maths or math.If you want to use math-fine but to those of us who prefer maths-also fine.As a teacher of maths(retired),I shall continue to use that term.

My younger daughter has turned out to be a notable maths genius. Obviously I have taught her how to use a slide rule and she really likes it. She has killed all the school records in maths (a shit state school) and people have been like 'why not send her to a proper school?' but I was like 'I went to a private school shit loads of money spent on me and I am pointless. Why would I want this for my own kids?'.
So she will be staying at the state school. She is wanting a round slide rule and to be fair they are pretty wicked so yes I will find one !

Just checked with my lovely husband who has 2 maths degrees-bachelor & master's-maths. Thinking back,I ran maths courses for newly qualified & newer teachers.I was helped by the local maths advisor who prepared us for OFSTED maths observations...

You don't need to be a mathematics genius to realise that there's an 's' on the end of the word.

We put our daughter in a local private school for a multitude of reasons. The range of children in the school was very varied, many were there due to being bullied in local state schools. These parents sacrificed holidays and luxuries to fund this choice. Granted there was a cohort of very well off families, a majority of “comfortable” families and the aforementioned struggling families.. Not all privately educated kids were born with a silver spoon. Oh, daughter, after run of the mill results at GCSE & A level, went on to get a 1st Class Honours degree.

My mum put me into the private school specifically because I was one yar older than the class 1 and she wanted me to start from the beginning.
State school would not allow this but the private did. So I was a yar older than the other boys and therefore reached 18 half way through A levels and being awarded a small pension I decided to leave school with no A levels.
I would not consider private school for my kids because I disagree with the principle of education being something one buys like a car.
Younger sister went to ordinary state school older sister went to a private girls school. All of the schooling was screwed because of the divorce. I even went to Stoke Brunswick for 6 months which was a shithouse full of nonces later closed down and one or two teachers put in clink.
Give me ten million quid my girls would be staying in the state school.
I hate private schools.
I suppose going to a Steiner school then home education then a paedo school then a boring expensive private boys school can cause one to be a little jaded !
It probably works for some people but in our family the one who has the most 'ordinary' and settled life is the one who went to one state school down the road from our house.

A question for the socialists on here. Which do you think is better: a/ The entire population being equally poor. b/ Half the population being poor (as above), the other half being rich. When did you stop beating your girlfriend love partner?

I see nothing wrong with someone choosing to spend their money on their child's education, or on indeed on health care.
The only decider is if you have the dosh.
Makes a lot more sense to me than buying a car 😄
Having never been involved with 'paid for' education or health care I can only hope they are value for money.
A friend arrived at our local NHS hospital 7am Monday morning for five hours of surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in her colon ... two hours on infusions and preparation to then be told the operation is off, go home, there's no ICU capacity. Hopefully she'll be called back in this week.
I would prefer to see greater priority and effort on improving state education and health care , rather than promoting the politics of envy.

The question is do you think corporations and the people who profit from them should pay their fair share of tax? Or is is right that people on the minimum wage pay a higher percentage of their earnings in tax than the top 10% of earners. As for private education establishments being charities and having the tax breaks that come with that, why?

Or is is right that people on the minimum wage pay a higher percentage of their earnings in tax than the top 10% of earners. As for private education establishments being charities and having the tax breaks that come with that, why? Of course people should pay their fair share of tax. The question is, what's a fair share? A significant proportion of British people are net recipients of tax. So, they pay less than nothing. Is that their fair share?
