Oh yes that's true but thats just a service part. Actually as I understand it the knackered bearings had caused considerable damage to the bearing housing. Not something that the previous marina dwelling owner would have known about.
Lunch over, back to work.
Thanks for the correction.

For asking this? "do you think the previous owner left it in good condition for a buyer?" - what's wrong with asking that? How long do you expect the seller should guarantee every single item on the boat? I'd say there'd be no 'guarantees' at all if sold privately, although there may be some statutory consumer laws to cover something. But there certainly should be a list of items with ages, ie. when bought and installed.Do you think the seller could see into the future and predict the fanbelt /alternator were going to go knackered some months Later so better stitch it into someone quick? Yes. If your alternator is, say, 20 years old, you could mention this to the buyer. Things wear out. Same with fanbelt - a cheap item, but worth saying when you put it on/when it was bought. Of course I don't think the whole boat was sold because the alternator was on the way out.
But I do remember you saying you bought items cheap and sold them on at a large profit to 'other idiot boaters' - for which Chagall gave you, quite rightly, a berating.Make no mistake....You are a smug twat that takes delight in others misfortune ! Yes and no. It depends on the person. I take no delight in Donkey's woes (although so far they are minor), and, as said, would willingly spend time with him giving a helping hand, as, to me, he seems like a sort of 'alright chap'.

I think it might have been you saying he got ripped off with the boat he bought. Yes I thought it was funny at first but it doesn't seem that way now. Never mind got a few things sorted today.

I wouldn't have said "ripped off" but I do wonder if the previous owner/seller supplied paperwork, which included details of 'work done' / 'servicing' / parts replaced / age of everything. If the hull is OK (oh dear... when was the last hull survey.... and will the insurance company, like ours. be demanding a hull inspection every 5 years?), and the boat is generally OK, and the price was OK, then Donkey may well be laughing as he is now in a much better position than many people in the country, being free to chug around and explore. Not to mention he has acquired a network of 'friends' who are following his travels, and who are willing to come to his aid if required.
As Stabby said, there are mothers rummaging around on rubbish dumps hoping to find morsels to eat in third world shitholes (name any South/Central American country!). Donkey is in the lap of safety and comfort in the upper Lea valley.
