Just did a search for "caravan MoT" and it seems the EU proposed to introduce testing by 2017. Is this why we now have Brexit? Hoardes of caravanners came out and voted just so that they could continue to tow completely unroadworthy piles of scrap about? Power to the people. This exact issue was the prime driver behind my decision to vote 'Remain'.

Yes there is that. I bet a lot of caravans have old crossply tyres on them. Yes, and poorly balanced braking systems. Overloaded (her), going too fast when overloaded (him). I've seen few on the motorway, the giveaway is car right way up, caravan on it's side, towbar bit twisted 90 degs. When I was a lad picking hops in Kent, about 6 of us got in a mini van on way back from pub, got up to 40mph, went into an uncontrollable swerve from side to side, turned over, wrote off a hedge. Overloaded just speed up until you find the speed for mayhem.

No MOT for caravans. It's great. A good stabiliser system works well to control snaking, which is scary when it happens. Correct Weight distribution also helps.
How many of the accidents referred to would have been stopped by an MOT? As for ordinary holidays, god forbid i would be in an all you can eat lunch queue with netto shoppers in Benidorm. I do my own thing.
It's just jealousy, freedom on the roads. Bit like boats really.

Been there with wifey loading up everything but the kitchen by which time you're late. Not had the accident but it's not hard to see the building blocks. Shit happens.

Yes there is that. I bet a lot of caravans have old crossply tyres on them. Unfortunately you are talking crap, again. pooly maintained vehicles come in all types shapes and sizes, and they lead to accidents. our 'van is serviced annually by a professional workshop as it is a requirement of the 10 year warranty that came with the 'van. It's much the same for others too. If you are so concerned I suggest you lobby your MP (good luck with that).

I don't give a toss about it you'll have noticed it was me who originally asked what the problem was with caravans. I was blissfully unaware that they have no roadworthiness tests. Now I know they don't it leads me to think perhaps there is an issue of some sort here. I still don't give a toss really. I didn't realise this topic was all that serious I thought it was more of a lighthearted thing but I guess some people take it seriously.

For anybody unsure courses (much like boat handling) are available.

I couldn't give a monkeys if MOT's are introduced, our 'van would sail through because it is properly maintained and check annually anyway. It costs over £200 to have our caravan checked and serviced and that includes a proper check of the gas system, this happens annually. ISTR that only happens every four years on a boat.

I feel much better now you have reassured me that your caravan is safe.
But I still don't give a toss.

Breaking too hard would be the main cause of the caravans I've seen go over.
Which would be poor driving but you could say the caravans breaks weren't up to it as well.
I had an unbraked caravan but it only weighed 700 kilos, the focus towed it fine with a stabilizer.
