Now I understand, it's always been like this, nothing will ever change there's no point trying to do anything. I might upset my comfortable lifestyle. It's one view of the world, doesn't mean it's reality. It's exactly what the corporate interests want you to think . Me I know a lot of self empowered people, that carve out lifes of their own making. It's not easy, but very rewarding. So I'll carry on as I am thanks.
Ps. Crt aren't a government body.

Kris, let's not go down that road again.
I'm not having a dig at you, it was a bit of a philosophical sort of extended version of life's shit then you die.
C&RT are all but by name. It's a con to help the Tories look like they have made things better....

I didn't take it as a dig at me, I'm quite happy with my life. I'm not having a dig at yourself either, I'm just pointing out there are different views of reality available. The only difference between yourself and some of the people involved with Nbta, is that your back is not up against the wall yet. It not something I would wish on you or anybody, but it certainly puts a different perspective on things.

OK, perhaps I'm being a bit over cautious and probably a bit soft!!, I want to stick to my word of not pissing you off on here. Yes, as you say I have no vested interest in it. My main interest lies with EA controlled waterways which have their own set if issues! We are thankfully too wide to get onto the GU and too time short to come in at Boston at the moment. One day we will come and give you buggers up north a look though. We did the canals a lot in BW days and had no problems, we were last on there in 2011 and have no real desire to get back at the moment.

Fucking hell! Please God no!!
The EA are bad enough at times!
That's been kicked into the long grass for a while thankfully.
We would have to come off the Nene, it would be totally unnavigable with them at the helm!

You're right in as much as sympathetic use of plots shouldn't harm anyone or be restricted, the problem lies between the fear of someone building a shanty dwelling right next to some rich fuckers pile. Hence why the busy body gets involved.. I haven't the time to tell of my friend in Silverstone battles over the years with his neighbours over his small holding and his use of it. Suffice to say that some very wealthy people have made a guy scratching a living from a small patch of land life very hard indeed. Shitting on the little guy - same as it ever was I can see why people don't want the country side over developed, but it could be easily prevented with plot size restrictions. For example, a 5 acre plot allows building of a small cabin, a 10 acre plot a 1 bedroom house, a 20 acre plot a 2 bedroom house, and so on... Sorry I am a bit late to the thread but you talk about countryside development, who do you think this aversion policy benefits most? I was born in a city and I genuinely appreciate the countryside but has it only succeeded in keeping the ownership in the same old hands and prevented access to the public?

It's not about beating the establishmen, it's about becoming the establishment. As for the boating situation. Every case of a limited liscence being offered that Nbta(London) have become involved in has been overturned and a 12month liscence given. It's not about sharing resources as Crt say, it's about getting a certain kind of boater off the water. Well tough shit myself and a lot of other people aren't going any where. They are not their waterways they are our waterways. But C&RT ARE the establishment and a disparate bunch of boaters have little or no chance of toppling them, surely? I disagree with you there Gazza,CRT represent an established interest certainly and I don't think its about toppling anyone, in fact thats the last thing you would want to suggest because then it takes the shape of an Anarchist Agenda which limits populist support.

It's kind of a Taoist statement, the art of war by sun tzu is well worth reading.
