When you are sick, lonely, depressed, hungry etc etc. What do you need? I suggest a kind person - hopefully an intelligent one but a simple one will do, certainly not an unkind intelligent person who just says 'tough luck'. Are you saying that you are any of those things? If so then I'm sure somebody here will be able to help within a day or two if you are willing to say where you are. Has Donkey been invited to the Goole shindig? Bring some drawing pins so we can put your tail on!

Intelligence helps people to know who to be kind to. For example I see people asking for money on the streets in London. I am not a prejudiced type of person in general so I either have to give them all money or none of them. If I give them all money then I have no money for myself. If I give some of them money then I am prejudiced against the others who I do jot give money to. So the answer is to give none of them money. I know its not directly related but one of the advantages of intelligence over kindness is that there are all sorts of people out to take advantage anyway so being kind "willy nilly" is a recipe for disaster. Kindness is not mutually exclusive with intelligence. I'm just saying it's more important. There are some piss takers out there granted. Kindness isn't dictated by money either....

Sometimes it's more important, sometimes not. Better to have both. Kindness isn't dictated by money and neither is intelligence. It's a pity there are so many people who aren't kind, quite a few on here to start with!

Anyway, I think we on here all like to enjoy the canals. Just remind me how they got here? Was it because messers Brindley, Telford etc were kind? Or was it because they were intelligent?

The only reason the canals were built was because of capitalist greed. Nothing more nothing less.

The only reason the canals were built was because of capitalist greed. Nothing more nothing less. That was part of it, but it was also a part of the industrial revolution. You could say that the whole industrial revolution was a capitalist greed thing but without it, we would still be living in a peasant economy. If you imagine that was all rosy, you don't know your history.

The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Not friendly. A con-man is friendly but not kind.
