And it's already in Scotland so could just pop down the coast one way then do the other side another time. Bobs yer uncle etc it is kind of perfect for what you want, it's not that old either. About the same age as both my other steel boats.

There you go you have no excuse now, make you dreams manifest on the material plane.

It doesn't have to be a bilge keeler you do get legs so most yatchs can dry out. Yes but bilge keels look a lot easier to me. Bilge keels dont tack as well as singe keels so you cant sail close to the wind. However I looked at a forty two foot motor sailer with hydraulic keel, stunning thing I should have bought it, twin perkins diesels and more than up to sailing around the UK. The real plus was with keel up and masts down it would go on my mooring with ease

The real plus was with keel up and masts down it would go on my mooring with ease having a boat that can go in shallower water is definately an advantage. Which is why I prefere L@L shortboats's compared to say a Sheffield keel. The same kind of length but the cruising range is incredibly expanded with the shallower boat. I don't know if I'd want a hydraulic keel though, but then I'm a great believer in the K.I.S.S. Principle.

Me too. I like the idea of bilge keels as it all seems a bit more durable and safe when going aground.
Maybe for a small boat a centreboard would be worthwhile.

Something like one of these You could have it all done in a few days... Horrible. I don't understand people who have boats like that. I guess its a showing off thing but personally I'd hate to have anyone else (other than misses and kids) on my boat. The idea of crew/servants is hell on earth !! I remember when I did my BTEC in Marine Engineering in the 90s the teacher asked people to describe their ideal boat "if money were no object". They all wanted Super yachts, sunseekers etc when it came to me it was "50ft converted MFV with a Gardner 8L3". They must have thought "wtf is that??" that I was mad. I lived on a 55ft nb at the time.

You both havent been sailing have you? bilge keels go sideways whilst a singe keel goes forward can be right annoying when on a tight course due to obstructions you want to miss!!

Because I've done a bit of sailing. I wouldn't call myself a sailor but I've probably done 20,000nm under sail. But I haven't run someone else's boat aground on the Ouse yet😃

I wondered who he was referring to (was it me and my alter ego).
I've done about 1nm of sailing in a dinghy.
Both my grandfather's were keen yachtsmen when they weren't driving their respective Lagonda and Aston Martin.
