No I was only joking except I'm likely to meet jenlyn before naughtyfox as he is geographichally more available and anyway my MI5 handlers have informed me in the last 24hrs that contact with Finland domiciled individuals who are currently under covert surveillance could have fairly significant security implications for the country I love. I don't want to go boating in Scandinavia. I like the UK.

So where does it state anywhere that a mizzen will power the boat dummy? I hate both to say it but bodger has a point you have to admit. He has no point whatsoever. He tried to interpret something I said nothing about.

Going back to the topic at hand might it be worth circumnavigating the UK (bearing in mind there would be no particular hurry so no need for a fast sail or motor vessel) in a well designed canal boat. Not a narrow boat but something like a 40ft double chined steel barge or similar. As long as any exposed decks drain suitably effectively it could be a "wet boat" and do the job quite effectively. I seem to remember an irritating celeb did it in Peter Nichols "FCN" barge but that was a publicity stunt. are you referring to Timothy Spall trying to do just that? it was far from plain sailing and of course will consume thousands of gallons of red diesel............. and he had a 'first mate' aboard.

BOT When I still had Emblem a round the UK trip was one of my plans for when I retired. Then progessing to Shetland and following the routes used for the Shetland Buss Run which Emblem was alleged to have taken part in during her war years. Then Scandinavia and the Baltic before returning to the UK and heading off down to the med via Gib.
I wasnt overly concerned with the fuel cost as she was very enconomical at 700 RPM giving 7kts through the water at slack tide. She was Gaff rigged which was managed single handed. A good auto helm and radar alarms helped for times away from the wheel but even so, I always prefered a mate or two with me on longer trips even if it was just to chuck a rope or two when coming alongside.
