I didn't realise you had got an eProp. Nice one! That's the unit I tend to recommend if someone asks me, not that I have used one but they do look like good units. I've actually bought the last two Aquamot outboards which were in the UK. Looks like the dealer is not going to sell them any more on account of some customer service problems. So I managed to get a really good deal which was nice. They are hilarious outboards which look silly but also incredibly well put together. They do work and I am hands on enough to sort any niggles out myself. Electric boats are the best thing since bread never mind the sliced stuff! Aquamot They have since gone to an Italian design company to refine the looks but I bet the outcome will be an inferior product. There are some design features I like about these ones including the fact they are 48v Lithium (NMC) batteries so can also be run on generic 48v ebike batteries to extend the range. In other words not tied to manufacturers batteries. Epropulsion is the same but Torqeedo make you buy their batteries. Sorry for wandering onto a different topic !

Hi Andrew, I didn't think I was going to get one for a few months as all the dealerships I got in contact with had none in stock and are waiting for the container to arrive. But I got lucky and found a dealership in Shepperton who had a long shaft and remote in stock. I can't fault the quality of the build. Very solid yet pretty light. I do like the feature that I can use other batts if I want, plus I like the option that I can take the onboard battery off and connect up with an extension cable, this will be very useful if I want to put it on the mirror or wayfarer.

Floating batteries is an interesting design I wondered how Epropulsion achieved that then found out that they are using pouch cells rather than the more common 18650 metal case cylindrical type, and there is a lot of air in the battery as well.
Mine won't float which is a disadvantage also they are only the small capacity 640wh batteries but luckily I ended up with a total of 4 of them so just carry a spare in the dinghy if needed.
Good point about using the original battery with remotes, that is a good bit of design.
I think Torqeedo are a bit worried about Epropulsion and so they should be.

Mounted the Epropulsion on the Wayfarer today and it worked well. It was boiling on the lake so I didn't stay out too long. π

Bloody speed merchant !!! You're going to be one of those people that get "slow down" shouted at them that is quite impressive, especially the range at the lower speeds !!

Hi John, Not much sailing I am afraid due to work. Hope to get out in the Drascombe for a quick trip up the Thames tomorrow or the weekend as the tides are favourable, unfortunately I am not sure about the weather. That video is a great story. I came across it a while back, I think i will watch it againπ

Thats enough chat about electric motors, lets talk about steamπ
I picked up a beautiful model steam launch. I know nothing about steam engines but this thing is fascinating. I removed it from the boat today to have a clean up and recorded a bit of footage. Anybody else here into remote control boats?

When I went to .. oh gosh cannot remember which island, there was a group of elderly men next to the sea with remote controlled boats.. I stood and watched for ages. It was lovely to see these ole boys with their toys. I think they r great.

Β I'd really love a faithful scale copy of Dulcinea with remote control. That would be seriously cool. Not good enough with my hands to make one but I would seriously consider commissioning a proper model maker to do it. I think it would be great.
