what happened about commissioning a model? I was otherwise engaged when this thread started, so I missed it. I am an avid boat modelmaker and have several miniatures in build in the boatyard at present. I might be interested. Do you have any accurate plans of the hull? I had to go back a page to see what you were referring to. I see Andrew mentioned he would like a model of his Dulcinea. I would like a model of the Drascombe coaster or Longboat cruiser. Fitted with RC control. It would make a beautiful model.

My small sail boat has had antifouling applied for a few years as it was moored in a marina on the south coast. When I bought it last April it had a fresh coat and it looked good. I have kept it on the Thames since April and I imagine the antifoul has been useful.
I am now going to keep the boat on its trailer between use. I will be launching the boat on lakes and reservoirs with the occasional trip on the Thames. I don't think I like the idea of having another coat of antifoul added which comes off every time you brush against it. On the other hand I think it will look nasty once scraped off. What is a good hard paint to use on the hull? Or do you have any suggestions?
Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Cheers, Paul.

Don't know about the paint but having a trailer boat sounds like a really good solution.
I thought that was what you were doing until you mentioned it was in a marina.
Jotun's do some good quality paint products.

Jotun's do some good quality paint products. The Marina on the Thames is great but I don't get too many opportunities to go sailing. I must admit I love motoring on the Thames. I will definitely be going back there on day visits and using the slip. So I have decided to put it back on its trailer and base it at a reservoir where I can learn how to sail this great boat. I have just been looking at firms that blast this stuff off, but you can tell they charge massive amounts of money. The surface at the moment is pretty good and the easiest solution would be to paint over the top of the antifoul with a paint that goes hard. I will look at Jotuns. Cheers.

I'm sure I saw your boat a couple of times on the Thames last summer. With the Epropulsion motor.
Lovely boat.
Must be nice to get the sails out.

Between Chiswick quay marina and Richmond lock. Absolutely loved those trips. You are right, it is great to get the sails filled. I will be using the slip at Windsor marina soon so I can get back on the beautiful river Thames.

There must be someone else with the same setup as I saw it this summer somewhere around Henley or Marlow. I I have not been below Runnymede so far this year.

There's a lot to be said for the good old day sailer. Chuck a small cabin on top, somewhere to get out of the weather, make a brew, or even kip for a night at a secluded anchorage. There are a few drascombe luggers here, but the favoured day boat is the Norfolk Oyster and Norfolk Gypsy, but they ain't cheap. Personally I like the Cornish shrimpers, a proper small boat, though things like the lune whammel and post boat are a close second. The Cornish shrimper is a lovely boat. I do like the Cape cutter boats.

I don't do sailing.
There seems to be a fundamental weakness there in that you need unsettled weather.
Sunny and settled is more pleasant so a solar powered electric craft seems more chilled.
Plus if you drive a boat with a propeller and make a steering arrangement you have the true joy of being able to choose your direction of travel.
It is not rocket science. Plus you fit under bridges!

I would miss the bridges.
Brides are one of the best features of this country.
