The Victorians were really big on advertising partially because there was so much competition. In the area of food production adulteration was rife and it was a way of promoting the quality and purity of your product. Cadbury's is an excellent example. The basic logo and product recognition features were there from the start to help the consumer pick it out from the competition.
Cadbury's products are in reality not particularly great. However the advertising cemented the company in England as the market leader. And it still is the market leader, because lots of people have happy memories of chocolate apocalypse at Christmas despite the fact all your favourites have been 'shrinkflationed' to death and its not even a British company anymore.

I don't know if I have ever been affected by advertising, having generally borne a cynical attitude towards most everything. It's usually a process of sifting through much dross before making a decision to purchase an item. Some bad choices I'm sure, but then experience gives you the warning, and the old saying 'a pessimist is simply an optimist with experience' rings true. Can anyone here think of being persuaded by adverts to buy that product? Nothing comes to my mind. But a lot of TV adverts are well made and worth watching for their entertainment value and catchy music. Catchy tune? Freeman's adverts with lyrics by Roo Saville Phil

I've been away from the circuit too long ..... That is a fine function band ...... but I can't help noticing there were no clear shots of keyboard player or the (very good) brass section ..... so they might have been session players and the actual musicians you got if you hired the band might be different (normal with function bands)

What do these bottle machines do? If it's like the ones I've seen in Austria, you take your bottles in, feed them into the machine, which gives you cash in return. A bit like returning the bottle for the deposit when you were a nipper.

No idea, you'd need to ask the keeper of the Daily Mail.

I bet they are ten a penny.
And by the way I'll have you know when I was a nipper we never used bottles as the servants had already decanted the contents into our home made jugs.

I've been told by an Austrian friend that the down and outs collect them to make a few euros.
