It is the imported risk to areas that have a high number of second homes that the rules/guidance are aimed towards. I think.
Cumbria is currently struggling with being one of the current worst affected areas - last thing it needs at the moment is a large number of extra visitors staying overnight. Often common sense is applied to the individual's circumstances not the wider community's interests.
I'd put the word "Too" in front of the bold bit. This is the result of 40 years of political and consumerist encouragement to be self-centred individuals. Look after no.1 and sod everyone else. Fuckin compete with them at every level of life. "My rules" and all that pappy shit. Society's arse truly bitten. Selfishness can be a bad thing, It usually happens with people who have too much, or nothing left.

Well I’m going for a jolly this weekend!! Looks like you will not be. The latest update from CRT “Overnight stays are not permitted. Hence the Trust advises against travelling long distances to visit your boat. Can I go out on my boat for a cruise? No. Boat movement is currently restricted; only those living on their boat can make short essential trips to facilities or services” didn't get that email...

I mean't that in my experience, people who have very little or even by western standards nothing are not selfish but generous, whereas generosity is often lacking in those who have plenty.

so - now we've decided we can't move for "recreational" purposes, Today I made an 'essential' journey... I've a car hire booked for tomororw (or I did) from Keighley with enterprise online so Ellis chugged along in readiness to collect the car tomorrow...
NOT that it's anyone's business, but it's to drive to a hospital pharmacy to collect some drugs I can't collect at a highs treet one btw... and I'm not taking the train as per Boris's advice (I think)
ANYWAY - about lunchtime, I get a call from Enterprise to say the Keighley branch is closed (nothing about it on the website that took the booking the day before) and could I collect the car in Bradford ffs.
er NO - I can't...
ergo, now turned around and pointing back towards Skipton - where (ironically) Skipton Self drive Have now answered their phones so I can hire one from them...
MEANWHILE - back in twatter, folk are still arguing with everyone about everything, sulking when your opinion disagrees with their hysteria and blocking you if you DARE to respond.
ALL is well with the world and online trolls rule - OK? lol

Lovely stretch of canal though ... did you enjoy cruising ? We were wondering how tough the swing bridges are going to be having been left unused so long ? Be honest ... you didn't want to leave Pennine Cruisers anyway Rog

Just a thought, though - Enterprise sent TWO drivers to pick up a friend at the beginning of the lockdown as they didn't want him in branch. Isn't that the point of Enterprise as a car hire firm that we use them BECAUSE they'll collect us (or, in these strange times, deliver a car?). Perhaps it's the twattering that causes the angst, Mark? Keep safe, keep sane x

Keep safe, keep sane x the lady on the phone said they are NOT delivering cars at the moment - that might be because it's a longer journey from Bradford to Keighly however... Either way - I'm not getting the train to Bradford ... being the 'law abiding citizen I am"... AS for Angst - I'm just not very tolerant of folks having a go/blaming everyone/organisation for making decisions they don't agree with - MYSELF included... I may not agree with things but I'm not gonna waste a public servants time, trying to get things changed... unless of course, it's for My OWN benefit, when I'm DOING as I'm told.

I agree with that, I was just suggesting that some with plenty tend to chose to be selfish, whereas some with little have no choice but to be selfish when it comes to survival.

We used to have chickens and ducks. When the fox came he would take their heads off. All of them if he could.
Didn't really need it all but eat the heads it's simple and nutritious not much agro plus the birds are then dead so you can come back for them later if possible or necessary.
Greed and survival instinct is not just a human trait but humans are really good at it so good in fact that it will be their downfall.

No it's not a bleak future.
It will have to be carefully managed so as not to piss off too many people too badly. Otherwise it starts getting complicated.

More doom & gloom. I thought these comments had merit: "Oh dear, <snip> there's sweet fa we can do about this." "Keeping you all distracted <snip> future is looking bleak." with luck the poster (s) will put an end to it all and at least save us the earache

With regard to the vexed question of boat movement, it seems to me that this is not, or rather should not now be, any sort of problem on the larger waterways with keeper operated powered locks.
What possible justification can there be for the EA or C&RT refusing passage through the mechanized Thames Locks, on the Trent below Nottingham, the Fossdyke to Lincoln, along Keadby and Selby Cuts, the Ouse up to and through York and the Derwent up to Elvington, the Aire & Calder and the S&SYN up to Rotherham, . . all waterways with locks can that be operated by navigation authority lock keepers without any contact with boat crews at all ?
