Not content with having boat access onto the Trent in Nottingham closed off at Meadow Lane Lock, C&RT have now closed Keadby Lock until further notice, citing a positive Covid-19 test on one member of staff as a valid reason for closing off the one remaining open route suitable for canal boats from the Midlands canals to the broad waterways of the Northeast. The only remaining option is to use the lower Trent - below Keadby - and the Ouse from it's confluence with the Trent up to Goole or Selby, . . waters definitely not ideal for canal boats, especially in the hands of those with no previous experience or knowledge of those rivers. How many will take a chance on going that way, I wonder, . . and how many will get away with it ? How many more will meekly accept being denied what they've paid for via their annual boat licences, . . at the same time sending a very clear message to those in charge at C&RT that they can endlessly piss their boating 'customers' about in any way that takes their corporate fancy ? This is great. Do it - you are incompetent and will most likely come to grief. Don't do it - you are a mindless and weak idiot. Can anybody think or a third option?

Anyone without the requisite knowledge and experience, and a boat that's up to the job, who chooses to risk the Trent below Keadby and the Ouse up to Goole simply because C&RT have chosen to impose yet another unnecessary arbitrary closure on the usual and much used route for canalboats via Keadby and Thorne cannot be regarded as anything other than a complete fool. On the other hand, if every boat licence holder wanting to travel between the Northeastern broad waterways and the Midlands canals were to exert some pressure on C&RT to deliver on what they should be providing in return for the annual boat licence fee, it would at least send a message to Parry and co. that they're not going to be allowed to get away with the year on year growth in the creeping restrictions and supposedly 'temporary' closures of more and more of our inland waterways.

I saw a small perch chasing another fish in a lock the other day. Water was clear so the pursuit was quite visible. Little fish kept jumping out of water but the perch got it in the end.

I actually did witness this event. Just trying to change the subject to something more interesting.
I reckon fish killing other fish is interesting.
It seems counterproductive in a species survival sense but there must be a reason for it.
Maybe there are just too many fish in general.

Maybe there are just too many fish in general. I've heard quite the opposite.

What, in God's name, makes you think that - "it belongs to CRT" ? I can't find where you posted it but i'm sure you said the boat was now the responsibility of CRT and not you. Due to CRT moving it. This sort of abdication would seem to me to effectively be a transfer of ownership. I don't mean literally I mean effectively. The end result for the vessel will be that CRT will have to seize it and deal with it. The generally accepted meaning of the noun 'responsibility' speaks of - "having a duty to deal with something", . . and that's what C&RT saddled themselves with when without first notifying me or seeking permission they failed to return Selby Michael to it's allocated wharf mooring and instead left it insecurely moored to the lowside bullnose at Hazleford Lock. They began the process of shedding 'responsibilty' for the barge when they returned it to the topside of Hazleford Lock a couple of days after it was intentionally set adrift, but in true C&RT fashion, they then arsed the job up thoroughly by tying it up on the Visitor Moorings and pumping it full of water. This e-mail, originating from the Newark office on 23 June last, makes an interesting read: Hi Mr Dunkley,
I write with regards to the craft Selby Michael index no. 508600 which Trust records show you are the registered owner of.
I wanted to inform you if you werenβt already aware that your craft has sunken which is located at Hazelford.
If there is anything we can help with please get in touch using the contact details below.
Kind regards
Yasmin Kouara
Licence Support Officer

How long are you going to perpetuate the utterly farcical notion that CRT sunk 'Selby Michael'? Oh yes, I just remembered. Till the day you die. Oh well, as you were.

How long are you going to perpetuate the utterly farcical notion that CRT sunk 'Selby Michael'? Nothing 'farcical' about it, . . as the independent eyewitness and photographic evidence bears out !

None of which will be disclosed anywhere or to anyone until after C&RT have committed a sufficiently concise denial of what they did to the record, . . or the photo's have to be exhibited in support of independent eye-witness testimony.
