Jesus Christ, he's copying and pasting himself now. Little choice, given that there isn't much else in the last few pages of this thread that's worth a second airing, . . and besides, questions that prove to be too difficult or embarrassing to answer deserve to be repeated until a satisfactorily response is forthcoming ! Have you taken the Gardner out? It's a shame if it's submerged. Nice unit and could probably survive but now that it belongs to CRT I suspect it is doomed.

So, really, why not use Selby Mike? Use it for what ? Sinking in a more useful location. ETA I noticed you said earlier that it is sunk. Must say I thought it was just full of water and grounded rather than being sunk ie holed.

Incidentally 'last month's idea' was to file a FOI request to obtain greater detail on precisely where the money CRT say has been spent on canal furniture has actually been spent (which lock, which bridge, etc). The part about 'prosecution' erupted from your fevered mind.

The FOI thing is interesting. I did one when CRT reduced the length of my residential mooring. Originally sold as a 72ft mooring it became a 57ft mooring (length of my boat) despite the fact that it was a fixed length residential mooring... They said they could not divulge information due to some bollocks about commercial sensitivity. www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/moorings_data_for_andersons_wharSimple fact is they sold the moorings as 72ft and anyone putting a shorter boat on there gets their mooring reduced in length while paying the same -fixed- mooring fee. Load of bollocks.. Really pissed me off but I was unable to find proof of mooring length despite the fact I do know there were three 72ft moorings advertised on the site and have written evidence from a previous mooring manager that I had a 72ft mooring. CRT are seriously cracked

Also the promise of resumed traffic on the A&C has resulted (or will do so imminently, it seems) in that thing so many long for - dredging. So if it became clear that a Trent barge was to resume traffic fully laden, would it have the same result?
Its all academic anyway since the evil monsters at CRT headquarters have now sunk the most likely vessel fit for the purpose for reasons entirely inexplicable before now. It makes perfect sense. Its not like there's a raving looney creeping around at night after all.

What, in God's name, makes you think that - "it belongs to CRT" ? I can't find where you posted it but i'm sure you said the boat was now the responsibility of CRT and not you. Due to CRT moving it. This sort of abdication would seem to me to effectively be a transfer of ownership. I don't mean literally I mean effectively. The end result for the vessel will be that CRT will have to seize it and deal with it. Am I wrong ?

I remember a story about a FOI request which was repeatedly ignored, so the issue was escalated to a court hearing where CRT were ordered to surrender the info and they still ignored it. Don't know where that one finished up.

Yes and the classic Hammersmith bridge one is comedy gold if you find this sort of thing funny From whatdotheyknow " Mr. Owen Sheppard Our reference : 1502949 Dear Mr. Sheppard Thank you for your request for information which was received on 23 April 2019. Your request I would like to ask the following questions about how much money the council has spent on maintaining and checking Hammersmith Bridge, due its known long-standing structural problems. Can you provide me with a breakdown of how much the council spent on carrying out monitoring and assessments of the condition of Hammersmith Bridge in every financial year since 2013/2014? How much did the council spend on surveying work on Hammersmith Bridge in every financial year since 2013/2014? How much did the council spend on repair works to Hammersmith Bridge in each of the years 2016/2017 and 2017/2018? Our response This request is being handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am writing to inform you that we have searched our records and the information you requested is not held by Hammersmith and Fulham." I think that last bit could be rearranged as "what part of fuck off do you not understand?"

Also the promise of resumed traffic on the A&C has resulted (or will do so imminently, it seems) in that thing so many long for - dredging. You should read C&RT's bullshit Notices more carefully : "In support of the new freight traffic movement from Hull to Leeds due to commence early September contractors will be undertaking bed levelling work on the Aire & Calder Navigation between Goole and Leeds. Work will focus on the following areas; work may also be required elsewhere on the navigation.". . . "bed levelling" is an expression that the C&RT shiny-arses have come up with to fool goons like you. It's NOT dredging - no material is dredged out - they simply 'rearrange' the mud, silt, and sand in the shallowest areas, . . they just spread the worst (shallowest) of the accumulations of deposited sediment about to make them less noticeable.
It's done using something resembling a cross between a plough and a harrow dragged along over the shallows with a tug. Works well in tidal rivers, done whilst a good Spring Ebb is running down, but no real use on a slow flowing river or a canal, . . like the Aire & Calder at this time of year!

'Goon' - it feels like a promotion! Good one. Anyway I shall hope the strategy is sufficient for the purpose. Or perhaps we should wish otherwise.

'Goon' - it feels like a promotion! It wasn't intended as such, . . just a way of introducing a little variety into the proceedings !

Not content with having boat access onto the Trent in Nottingham closed off at Meadow Lane Lock, C&RT have now closed Keadby Lock until further notice, citing a positive Covid-19 test on one member of staff as a valid reason for closing off the one remaining open route suitable for canal boats from the Midlands canals to the broad waterways of the Northeast.
The only remaining option is to use the lower Trent - below Keadby - and the Ouse from it's confluence with the Trent up to Goole or Selby, . . waters definitely not ideal for canal boats, especially in the hands of those with no previous experience or knowledge of those rivers.
How many will take a chance on going that way, I wonder, . . and how many will get away with it ?
How many more will meekly accept being denied what they've paid for via their annual boat licences, . . at the same time sending a very clear message to those in charge at C&RT that they can endlessly piss their boating 'customers' about in any way that takes their corporate fancy ?
