Wouldn't the work boat just dig a channel around the grounded boat? No, that wouldn't really work as you suggest, . . provided the grounded vessel was in the navigation channel, which on the river sections of the Trent Navigation above Nottingham was never any more than 35' - 40' wide. The sand and silt that's deposited in the Trent's navigation channel is far too mobile to dig a steep sided channel through it, in other words it immediately 'slumps' back in to re-fill any such attempt. Given the combined beam (28') of the C&RT craneboat [MCB] sent to Nottingham for the Meadow Lane Lock job and a Leeds & Liverpool boat, and the navigation channel width at Barton Island, digging a channel through the deposited sand and silt sufficiently wide and deep for the MCB, an operation requiring additional plant in the form of hoppers, a tug, and somewhere to empty the hoppers and a means of doing so, would simply leave the other vessel on an unstable underwater shelf of sand which it could then wash away and power itself off using it's own propulsion. In the event that C&RT had done as above and left Kris's boat stranded on the unstable edge of a newly dredged narrow navigation channel, however, it is highly improbable that his boat would have had sufficient power to re-float itself without the assistance of a tow from another boat again. It's engine is of more than adequate power output - in excess of 40 bhp at maximum rpm - and the propeller is of the correct diameter and blade surface area, but the boat is fitted with the wrong gearbox reduction ratio, overloading the engine to the extent that even underway it only achieves barely half it's rated rpm, . . and considerably less with the boat at a standstill and no forward movement to create any inflow to the propeller. Although it will almost certainly be denied, this is undoubtedly one of the reasons why he was so unwilling to repeat the earlier grounding at Barton Island.

I think I should just make it clear for anybody suffering under the delusion that anything else is true. My boat is my boat and as such is nothing to do with anyone else. What it does where it goes and what happens to it are my responsibility. Such are the joys of owning your own boat. If anybody thinks something else should happen with my boat then that’s just their hard luck.

wind him up and let him go. Someone should perhaps tell him where meadow lane lock is. Actually, I was reading about the Trent recently, from Canal Planner, for our future trip downstream. I hope you have persuaded CRT to do the dredging before we arrive! Meadow Lane Lock is just above Meadow Lane Junction, which is where the Nottingham Canal hits the River Trent. Here it is: Beware the bore. It may be on your boat😉

Anyway I think most people reading this post have an idea of what’s going on with crt and preventative maintenance. So I think we should all start collecting evidence of belligerent neglect on our travels ............... and on 19 July 2020 he was saying : ........... like donating say £10 a month to finance a case, if 100 boaters would do that it would go along way to financing it ............ How's last month's idea about prosecuting C&RT over lack of maintenance progressing ? Are you doing any better with the fund raising than with your less than committed attempts at evidence gathering ?

Would have been even more 'concise' if u hadn't said anything at all! Just schools shuttling today, back & forth from 2 closed schools to a temporary 'centre school'. In the gap 0920-1200 I went to have a look at Route 2. The northern end is nice countryside, and it crosses the mighty Perhonjoki (river that comes from Kyyjärvi and Kaustinen). Linja 2 at Rodsjö. Names and language in Swedish & Finnish in Kokkola.

Jesus Christ, he's copying and pasting himself now.

Jesus Christ, he's copying and pasting himself now. Little choice, given that there isn't much else in the last few pages of this thread that's worth a second airing, . . and besides, questions that prove to be too difficult or embarrassing to answer deserve to be repeated until a satisfactorily response is forthcoming !
