When I first saw the Ignis I was like Yes? Or maybe No?? Loved the Renault. The Suzy is ok, proper size for a car as well, anything much bigger is just a waste of materials. A GT Turbo Raider stuck in a dry garage in 1990 would have been quite a decent investment. An incredibly cool car indeed.

Was thinking about barn finds the other day, if I had a few quid and a double garage, I would be tempted to stash a couple of cars, what with the new laws in a few years time, the price of combustion engine cars, the right ones, could go up a fair bit in 20 years.

Tricky one. I have classic bikes and Iβm not sure which way this will go. If petrol goes then...will make lovely artwork in my study I guess π

I believe the demand for petrol/diesel will be around for some years after the changes to law, 15 years at least for the cars still running which will decrease, then the people who wish to keep a petrol/diesel car for the love of it...
May have to travel some miles to get it in 15 years time though.

just for transport would agree ...... really fancy something tiny, that would suit me fine for 90% of my useage.
But !!! if you want to collect a load of firewood or 3 metre lengths of materials for a job........
or ...... to collect some really usefull item that is certain to come in useful one day that you have to collect now but its free but it will just fit in a big car or weighs a couple of ton and you need to collect it with a borrowed four wheel trailer ........ in other words everyday life for a liveaboard boat nut I am moving away from this lifestyle model I don't mean leaving boats but getting away from having untold amounts of random shite around and big cars. Actually there was a review where someone pointed out that you can in fact fit a 9ft long 2ft wide object in the car if the passenger seat is lowered down. It's a LOT bigger inside than it looks like it would be. There was also acres of headroom for me and leg room I didn't need the seat right back. I think it will make the driving a lot more enjoyable and cheaper insurance, tax, fuel etc is also pleasing. The items Ali fits in her little Fiat amazes me. Way more practical then Iβd have believed, and so much fun. Easy to fit in tight spots.. comfy, sporty, pretty...great car.

I don't like Fiat's vehicles, just a personal thing, but the most similar car to mine, technically, is the current Fiat Panda 4x4. They are both actually reasonably useful in mild off road situations which would stop a 2wd car. Of course it won't be anything like as good as the Jimny but does seem to be a handy thing to have. My short test drive did indicate to me that I am likely to enjoy driving it. I'd much rather a 2 hour journey which is just enjoyable and scenic than a one hour journey at 90 on the motorway.

Although often the size of the space inside a car is quoted in cu metres ....this is fine if you are packing it with small items .... the problem is that if the object you wish to carry is wide and long, although it would fit inside the space, if it doesn't bend ..... it won't go through the bloody door

It's a hatchback and in a review someone carried 2.7m lengths of timber in it, with the hatch closed.
Anyway making things is not in my skillset so best avoided.
It's a deceptive little car there is also full head and leg room for two adult passengers in the back.
The two rear seats slide back and forth to open up room in the small boot space.
Interesting design I have not seen before.
Boot will be big enough for the basics like a few bags of coal, couple of carriers of diesel or the shopping.
It quite an efficient little unit really I reckon it's going to work nicely.

I have carried 8 foot by 2 foot bits of ply in the Volvo but that bloody chair just wouldn't fit

When I first saw the Ignis I was like Yes? Or maybe No?? Amazing what a bit of tumblehome does - the R5 looks spot on, the Ignis less so! A bit like the comparison between an old Rugby boats and an East West Marine boat..

The swamp thing does look a lot more 80s than most other small car offerings.
At least they made an effort in this regard rather than it just ending up being a non-event generic like most of the others.
As for the power no it is not a sports car but being a naturally fast driver I need something to slow me down - this is part of the reason for getting this kind of car.
I will definitely enjoy eeking out as many mpg / litres per 100km as I possibly can.
Efficiency is the name of the game and it looks like it might be one of the most efficient IC engine cars around.
And it's even got automatic 4wd as that one is the slightly more unusual top of the range version.
Manual gearbox.

And it's even got automatic 4wd as that one is the slightly more unusual top of the range version. Manual gearbox. Be very aware that auto 4wd are usually a Haldex unit and if not serviced properly as in oil and filter every 30k miles, which means a disassembly, they fail requiring a new pump. I have had this happen twice on the Yeti once on purchase and once 45k later because the garage didn't change the filter and only changed the oil. Best thing to do is stop on slippy surface and then do a quick start, if you get any wheelspin from the front wheels the Haldex is broken. You would be amazed at the number of 4x4 that aren't because the Haldex is bust!

Good advice.
There is also ESP on there and grip control.
Maybe too much gear on it !
Anyway I'll see how it goes. It gets reasonable reviews generally, clock says 5k miles I don't do huge mileages and yes I will investigate ensuring that the viscous coupling oil is changed as required.
And a test will be sensible too. In fact I might ask Steve if it's okay to drive if onto the field here. That would be quite interesting and get him to pull me out with his Hilux if/when I get stuck...
