Well a friend of mine recently bought a Jimny and is bloody excellent!! A real nice little toy. Very amusing item. I've been wanting to do away with the Saab as I seem to drive it too fast which does not end well so something to slow me down would be good. Anyway I'm off to have a look at this one today and see about a p/x www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202006120058563They are actually very capable off roaders and can do more than a range rover. Also very small so will be great in traffic. They are actually very spacious - no problem for a tall thin driver like me. And best of all it just puts a huge smile on my face as it is so funny. My first ever car was the first Japanese 4x4 in the UK (Daihatsu F20 Fourtrak). Daihatsu have since stopped doing the Fourtrak but Suzuki just keep on doing them.

Are you going to be enrolling in a hairdressers course too?

I don't do work so no.
It's actually not a hairdressers one.
It's got a proper ladder chassis and high and low range 4wd and serious capabilities.
Not a rav4 or any of that nonsense.

I've had a good look at it.
It is indeed a car ... car's move you around, and I'm sure this one will too.
Hope that helps.

Yes that's very enlightening and brings into the equation factors I had not yet considered.

never mind the hairdresser bit - the original Suzuki 'jeep' was the favoured transport for Bedouin in the Gulf area - drive from Abu Dhabi out into the desert and you could be sure to find a shepherd with a few sheep, a camel, a tent and a Suzuki. Now replaced by top of the range Toyota Land Cruisers of course. And the Maruti-Suzuki was the favoured transport for farmers and mountain men in India (and still is!). They were robust and easily maintained.
if it was good for them then the newer model will do for you. After all you are not looking for sophistication, are you?

I've had one (I'm not a hairdresser either - which is obvious looking the bosuns "3rd lockdown haircut"). It was great fun but, and it's a big but, IF you enter a corner like you would in your saab... you will be going for a nice roly poly! I know this!!!
On the plus side, it did really well through floods and snow to get me to work from Leyburn to Northallerton one winter in my late teens.
They may be more sophisticated now . Oddly enough I was looking at one on Ebay last night too ... more for Next winter when I'm in Stone over wintering... a bit far to walk with shopping etc and whilst I could take the boat from the marina to S & M, the marina itself is quite exposed, wind wise and getting back on a pontoon (wihtout careering into your neighbours boats) is very difficult on all but the camlest of days.

Don't need sophistication no.
Having said that it's got quite a high level of equipment on there.
That one is the JLX+ which even has air con.
The engine is nicely packaged - I can see what's what in there and would be happy to work on it.
It's a properly put together unit.

Did you have the SJ? They were known for rolling. My dad bought the first Jap 4x4 new in 1978 (Daihatsu Fourtrak Taft F20) and he used to relentlessly take the piss of the Suzuki SJ because of this basic flaw. The Jimny seems to have sorted that problem, and I go into corners slowly anyway. It's just on open roads I drive too fast, on windy roads I always drive slowly anyway.

My friend who just bought one had an SJ years ago and it put him off but this one is a completely different kettle of fish.

I met a guy refueling 20 riders at the Welsh Two Day Enduro - 20 x 20l Jerry Cans in a stripped out SJ 410; poor bugger had white knuckles and a distant glazed look in his eyes - reckoned he'd never been so frightened in his entire life, one false move on a mountain road and BOOM! you better call Red Adair in!

Yep- I was great fun and felt like a go cart... only not as stable or low. I bought it as an inbeteener when I ahem (wrote off my vitara which I'm not owning up to) - that was a hairdressers car too, Fun times and great in bad weather... just not on a sunny day on the way home from work! I had a look through my cloud to see if I had any photos (scanned and uploaded) but no... nearest one I could find was a goole image oh to be young again. I followed it with a swift gti, twin cam 16 v rocket... that was MORE fun but the insurance (due to aforementioned 1st crash and subsequent roly poly) was 1800 per year... and that was going back a LONG time. I feel much safer in my 16/17 tonnes of sewer tube although cornering upstream with with tide behind, is MORE scary!

Looks to me like basic transport ..... which is absolutely fine if you want basic transport.
My questions always are, what does it cost ? Is it reliable (within reason)? can it carry the humungus amounts of crap that as a boater you always seem to want to collect? Is it a vehicle that if you leave it somewhere for weeks, the scroats will sneer at and ignore ?
