I have never understood why it is so difficult to stay within the clearly defined channel markers. I would have left them to wait for the tide. I used to see similar on Barton Broad when I worked on the Broad,

Patty, I hope I'm not too late to wish you a very merry flappy Birthday, and hope your day is just as you would want it to be. Hope to see you on the boards soon. Philxxx

Huh, the word cruising is a very dirty word in our house at the moment because Chris just got an e-mail from P & O saying her upcoming cruise has been cancelled. This is the 3rd time it's been cancelled, 2020, 2021 and now 2022. The reason this time is that they don't have enough crew so sorry and here's your money back. The crew that they have are being redeployed to one of the humungous floating hotels. It looks doubtful that Chris and her sis will get away this year, may just concentrate on her final booked cruise next year. Or maybe go for one of the small operators, time will tell. There is chatter on the net about another failed cruise this is because the ship in question is riddled with legioners, a serious failing on the part of the ship owners. I was staying at hom as big ship cruises ain't my bag and so I shall have to cancel my Beer and Pizza party π Bugger,I was hoping for an invite !π Top of the list Trina, top of the list Phil

Cold but a gloriously blue sky, sunny morning π My knees feel good, so back into engine hole to try those filter grippers. Hopefully get the last little jobs done and we can tackle Hatton tomorrow ... been a few years since we headed up there. Enjoy your model railway show and first cruise of your summer Mr Stabby Rog

Just one more day left at work now. Will probably push off on Sunday, need to be at Foxton for Easter weekend and it's a little over 20 hours cruising time from here. Am pretty much ready to set off I think. Two more sleeps ..... Have fun... it was quite entertaining out here today!! Maybe considers hobby, kite flying as a suggestion. πΊπ¦π

I donβt think making it every two years will make any difference to the safety of boats. I was meaning that there wouldn't be any need for the BSS at all if people maintained their boat properly, which many don't. Certain amount of truth in this, one old BSS examiner took this attitude and his exam consisted of lifting the deck board, looking at the engine in its 'ole and saying "yes that all looks very tidy" and the just dropped the board to move onto the gas locker, same again, then the battery locker, same again. He then asked me if I had fire extinguishers so I listed them to which he nodded and that was it. The whole job took no more then 1/2 an hour including a bit of a chat. He said with some conviction that a tidy boat was unlikely to be any threat to either the owner or to boats moored nearby Phil

Has anyone else noticed this ? I put a few "anchored with brake rotors" floating wheels out for the wildlife (as you do) and also they are chained to the pontoon*. Anyway there are a couple of obviously male ducks who were doing grooming showing off things. After a while they became less socially distant which was interesting. It's quite interesting to watch the behaviour. Coot turned up and annoyed them but they obviously exhibit some sort of power. Quite impressive as the coots are rather aggressive. *I had to put chains on as there are some litter picking idiots who can't work out that these are for the wildlife and attempt to remove them. I did tell one of them to "FUCK OFF" but in toned down language. Maybe next time I ought to use the proper lingo ? I mean gods teeth if one has to spend valuable time in such an awful inner city hell bin then surely one can be excused for encouraging wildlife, and killing idiots with a really big gun. Crikey! You sound just like Chris because that's her solution to all life's problems..... Get a big gun and shoot them, that'll learn 'em Phil

I always think a short spell working reminds you why we enjoy going off boating ... worth it for that Rog You should try it while retired, it's truly fabulous, pity the boat had to go, now I'm confined to watching Goole earth while following various rivers that we had attacked, can remember every detail of every trip. Can't complain though we did have a great 20 year adventure. (sigh) Phil

On another forum I visit I said that I had to have a car to get to work and someone said "You could get the tube" so I replied, a bit snarky like "I asked in the village in Warwickshire I live in and apparently there isn't a tube station". Well, that shut the cunt right up. And this is the problem. Most of these eco-loonies live in London, or Brighton, or Cambridge or other places which have effective public transport systems and they simply don't understand what public transport is like out in the sticks. I'm surprised at Jim though, because I've met him and he pointed out his house and that didn't strike me as being particularly close to a tube station or an every-five-minute bus service either. But then he's got his nose so far up Sir Kneelalot's back passage that he can't see much more than the official mantra. Reminds me of where I lived in London, on a bus route with 2 buses every 5 mins, the 176 and the 8 plus a tube station 5 mins walk away, the old Baker loo. I never learned to drive till my 30s because with such a fine public transport available why would I? Now we live in a very rural part of the world all we have is a very shabby bus shelter which is due for removal as no buses have been seen all the time I've lived here. A car is essential I'm afraid.
