If you lived on the boat 365 days a year with no alternative lodgings it could be a different story. Definitely for seasonal use the moving thing is the way to go. No question. Spent 20 years living aboard 365 days a year and beg to differ, its the only life, trust me you will miss it when life snatches it away

Hey Gazza, hope your birthday is all that you expect, and that the cake and ale doesn't run out.

I have used the slimy mud trick to good effect, the idea is to throw dollops of squidgy mud at them and they become so obsessed with cleaning and preening that all else is forgotten. A Swan or in fact any water bird is really hung up on keeping clean and therefore waterproof so they don't sink... a bad thing for any water bird.

So now that's settled, they can all F off. This issue should've all been put to bed a long time ago but the media have made a concerted effort to keep it at the forefront as has Starmer and all with the intention of getting rid of the bloke who dished out countless millions to furlough the country, likewise extra Universal Credit etc etc, in essence did a pretty good job at keeping the country afloat. The screaming hordes seem to think there is a magic money tree, sadly there is not and all the money borrowed has to be paid back

I love those homemade log splitters you see on YouTube. Oh, those crazy Russians! The Americans do alright too. Reminds me of a stunt that I got away with When I was a kid. I drilled a hole in a tree in our garden and packed it full of scraped match heads, put a metal dowel in th hole (tight fit) and proceeded to Wang the dowel with a spade. Eventually the critical point of compression was reached and an enormous bang ensued followed by a mahoossive lump of wood flying through the air.

I did wonder Jim if in your case it was you that would be screaming rather than Noreen ... all that juggling, fire-eating and dumb jokes ... you can wear stilts but you can't hide π Rog Very difficult to hide while wearing stilts

Moored in a lovely spot miles from anyone. Touching up a bit of paintwork and other little jobs. Ali has decided to paint white strips on our poles. This is causing me some concern as she is very random in general. The white stripes are neither the same width or in any particular place. My engineering background finds this difficult to cope with. However, another part of my brain is telling me to keep my opinion on this to myself. I know the feeling,I too have a engineering background and Chris reckons I have OCD because as she puts it " always faffing about measuring things"

You could be right Gazza, a mate of mine had a fire on his diesel heater and it nearly took out the wooden boat along with him, his missus and his Bro in law. Flames were coming out of all the vents, to this day he cannot say how he put it out as they were moored on the no road access side of the river. I only knew about it when I woke up to let my dogs out and could smell the smoke. I dinghyed round to offer what assistance I could but it was all out by then. Made me seriously think about my Mikuni and PROPEX setup, went for a Glembring diesel heater in the end.

There is a hidden safe on my boat but it's so well hidden that I've never been able to find it.Β When I took over our NB I located all the locks and matched them with keys except the key marked SAFE. I searched high and low but no safe to be found. I knew that the boat lived ashore and was used as a office for the moorings the guy had and I figured the safe had been removed along with his personal effects. So I launched the safe key, yes you know what's coming, a couple of weeks later I found the safe, it was built into the floor of the sub well deck floor and was accessed via a door behind the front steps, the carpet under there was very thick making the keyhole very hard to find. Oh and nope never did get into it
