Hmmm, would it be possible to ask for a replacement sim, therby having two gadgets with the same phone number? That's not going to happen quickly as I need to change my banking address with Three, as it seems they only post things to my registered banking address, and of course I am not there either!
My reading of all this : mifi sim gives my internet to all my gadgets, except the phone, ie one or two laptops, my tablet, everything unlimited, except that the phone is limited , I ran out of phone data last month, but that is the first time ever. I am not sure how the phone gets its connection to the internet, but I think it is independant of the mifi. Needless to say, I have no desire to use tethering or hot spotting with my phone.
The phone has a limited amount of data, and is essentially on a sim only contract. I know the phone number.
The tablet is the one on a special deal, half price contract for six months, then full price. I think that the tablet and the laptop are on one contract, unlimited, this superceeded the original contract . I discovered the tablet has a telephone facility, but I don't know it's number, yet. I suspect the box the tablet came in, or the sim will show the telephone number of the tablet. I expect those among you who have been buying all the latest gadgets every year will sigh at my ignorance of these matters, I am not interested in being leading edge, I just want internet and a phone. I bought a tablet as backup to my laptop , it seems to work more like a fancy phone than a standard computer, loaded with certain apps and rubbish games.
The phone is on a sim only contract, limited data, unlimited calls.

No.I am not sure how the phone gets its connection to the internet, but I think it is independant of the mifi. Because the phone has the same functionality (for internet) as the mifi gadget.Needless to say, I have no desire to use tethering or hot spotting with my phone. The phone has a limited amount of data, and is essentially on a sim only contract. I know the phone number. I discovered the tablet has a telephone facility, but I don't know it's number, yet. Whatever the box does or does not say, if you put your phone sim in the tablet it will have the same number as your phone did.I bought a tablet as backup to my laptop , it seems to work more like a fancy phone than a standard computer, loaded with certain apps and rubbish games. The 'standard computer' uses MS Windows whereas the tablet uses the Android OS, the same as the phone, so it is in effect the same as the phone. Some preloaded crap can be uninstalled. Some cannot (not easily anyway). Look in settings.

How complicated you have made things!
For comparrison I have a 3 sim only contract with unlimited tethering, calls and txt in a smartphone. That sits on the fridge mostly and tethered to it are 2x desktop PCs and another (old) smartphone with no sim installed.
So, one monthly contract for 4x devices all connected to the internet through the sim only contract. The phone with that SIM is of course the only one that can make/recieve calls and txt, but all or any of the other devices are connected together for email i.e. one email address that can be used by all 4 devices which all show the same inbox etc. Yes I'm on a boat.

What happens when the phone dies? Or stolen? I pay for two contracts, yes, but its £30 a month, to go up to £40 fairly soon. I think a phone contract can cost that, and a lot more. If one part dies, assuming I can get tablet to be a phone, I have full redundancy. I don't think this is complicated, just happens I started with a phone, added internet via mifi, and now have a tablet. I just went to a shop, said I wanted a phone. That was a smart phone, took me a while to use it as I was too busy to bother with 'learning' stuff. I gave people my nunber and let them phone me. Next visit I asked for a tablet after I asked for a mifi.

I will try to find the contract letters, they are somewhere, but the first one they sent me extending the original contract, I have it here, asks me to pay more for the same deal , so I just kept paying the same amount, which they accepted.

Next visit I asked for a tablet after I asked for a mifi. I don't have that concern. I have no redundancy plan but a replacement sim in the old phone would get me going again, or a new phone and replacement sim on the same ongoing contract. I wonder how someone could steal your phone if you stay 2m away from everybody? If someone broke into the boat (ha-ha I haven't ever locked it) my son would likely kill them or close to before I could stop him. The phone would be the least of my worries.

I was too busy to bother with 'learning' stuff. It is so over-rated, isn't it? I know a couple of extremely inteligent, technically clever guys, neither of whom ever read the bloody manual before trying to use things. They assume they can fiddle through and to be fair they normally can ...... but on occasion they have come spectacularly and expensively unstuck.

The manual makes more sense if you've dismantled whatever it is before you read it. The skill is knowing when you should down tools and read.

All's well that ends well as William Shakespeare might once have said. New phone arrived, and once I got the back off and the sim card installed it stuttered in to action. I've lost my phone contacts, but I'm not too bothered. Situation normal. UPDATE turns out I have three contracts with Three, spent an hour on chat asking why my phone contract is not 'unlimited calls', they still deny selling me a phone, ever.

Spoke too soon, this phone is not working either, soooo, it seems sim card fsulty. Anyways, I want a new computer. It has to be fast and simple. I want to print out stuf, so it needs USB ports to connect to my printer. The battery should work for four hours, and it should have a big size usb port to connectvto my printer. It should not spam me with microsoft or rubbish like that. £250
