Yup! The fact those dickheads pull the wool over the eyes of those above them, and those above them allow it is one of life’s greater disappointments 🤦🏼♂️ These knob heads usually end up climbing the ladder as well. It’s definately a big problem within industry.

Mechanic at Alavieska bus garage - male. Mechanic at Kokkola bus garage - male. Pirkko - female - former job teacher. I rest my case. Gazza is right about those snooty twat 'mechanics' who know it all and talk down to you and don't come and show you how to do things. They are always right, and don't want to listen when you have a different idea - which may be wrong, but they won't say why (probably because they don't know and it will show their ignorance) and they just talk over you louder, and then walk away in a huff. Usually they have 'proper mechanic's overalls' on. Engineers not mechanics - thick dumb arse mechanics are A different kettle of fish - you are on the receiving end as a paying punter, kris and I were talking about the problems colleagues can have on a peer to peer level rather than you being tucked up for a shit repair job on your car.

Basing your opinion on one garage..that figures... Two garages. OK, let's try supermarkets. Go into 10 Tescos and count the cashiers - how many male, how many female? Don't blame me - it's the way things are. Our two hull surveyors - male. Every mechanic ('engineer' if you have a shiny name plate on your overalls) we have met on the waterways - male. Of course women work - but I have known none who have read books about how cars work out of their own curiousity/initiative. The photos of you changing oil on Ellis. Now, why would a visitor change the oil on someone else's boat unless prompted. So, is that a 'staged' scene? Did Mark suggest you might like to try it, under supervision? I can't see myself on someone else's boat and suddenly find myself checking their service records and offering to change their engine oil. That's just bizarre. Remember I am NOT a Hotel - I'm a live-aboard experience... be that filling the water, pumping out, changing the oil or drinking wine!

Plus opening lock gates at night...... .... yeah - not to mention an "afterdark" river cruise to make use of a pumpout machine left on "pause" on the river Aire. Happy times.

It does not prove that women take an interest in servicing vehicles/machines. Women like crochet, and watching TV programmes about wedding dresses (gawd knows why).

I do not watch much tv and certainly wouldn't waste it on wedding dresses. I also take an active interest in servicing my boat. However, I do not feel the urge to change my engine oil quite as often as some here .........

That's just bizarre. You wouldn't have the time after changing your own or replacing serviceable expansion vessels.
