Please, try not to be so obtuse. First of all, I don't feel caged. Law enforcement authorities put real people in real cages (prisons) for doing less harm to society than you and your fellow drinkers do. There's no reason you need to drink, and it is obscene that you would imprison other human beings for doing nothing less than what you do on a regular basis. Secondly, Medical Marijuana has THC. I know because I used to grow it. Marinol, the synthetic mj substitute, does not contain THC, but neither does it contain many of the cannabinoids that natural mj contains and it lacks the efficacy of natural mj. Lastly, you should be aware that the human rights of the other 7.39999 billion people on this planet are dependent on neither your sympathy nor your approval. What makes you think that I am a drinker? My favourite from the age of 21 to 42 was Cocaine, another drug that is not physically adictive, should that be made legal? Cocaine should not be made legal.

If it had been legal, would you and your wife have behaved any differently? It seems to me it was already illegal and didn't stop either of you, yet you think they should be illegal. I can't understand how you artived at your position. That's easy its a very mentally destructive drug and as such people should be protected from it. My EX-wife s not the only person I have known to slide down that slope. I have never smoked, just can't understand taking substances that slow you down. Apologies, EX-wife. It already was illegal and that didn't protect her. Would you change the law so it works? If so, how?

My ex didn't drink or take drugs and she is the most mental person I know.

My view - yes legalise it.
Difficult to explain all my thoughts about drugs without writing an essay. Dope isn't for me because it really does affect me for several days, same as some prescription drugs do.
Alcohol/Dope/Prescription Drugs etc have been used for many years, banning them doesn't cure anything but stops people having a bit of fun or anesthetising themselves from reality.
The wider question should be more about why people need Alcohol/Dope etc.

I used to smoke (tobacco) 40 odd years ago, I have consumed and smoked (experimentally) pot in my youth, I didn't enjoy the feeling. I drink alcohol
(in moderation because I dislike feeling drunk) I am fortunate in that addiction to donuts, (providing my waistline does not exceed certain limits) is not frowned upon by society.
I don't think any of them should be illegal
(apart from those disgusting claggy donuts from the Morrisons on Canvey Island)
Certainly no one should be locked in cage
(except possibly the baker responsible for those disgusting claggy donuts from the Morrisons on Canvey Island)

Personally I don't care either way because I see that it has no effect on the numbers of users.

The wider question should be more about why people need Alcohol/Dope etc. why do they need it? boredom combined with a lack of imagination as to how to keep themselves usefully occupied or how to resolve life's little problems.

I will say this again, who would you rather be in charge of whether or not your kids get drugs, the government or a drug dealer? The ONLY way we can ever regulate drugs is to legalizes them. Prohibition has shown unequivocally that it doesn't work. If it had been legal, would you and your wife have behaved any differently? It seems to me it was already illegal and didn't stop either of you, yet you think they should be illegal. I can't understand how you artived at your position. How has that helped your wife? If being illegal did not protect you or your wife then, how is going to protect you, her or anyone else now?
